I would just like to share my thoughts on why I think new hero is slap in the face for Warden and all of those playing as Warden.
It's been few years now since community first started asking about Warden rework in a sense not to buff him but to give him few moves that would justify "master of the longsword " story behind him. Developers pretty much ignored all of that and we got "rework " which arguably make Warden look less skilled than he already was. For instance, dashing heavy looks ridiculous, almost like Warden is tripping.
Imo, there is an issue when we have longsword as weapon but without using murder stroke, half wording or without using sword to thrust/pierce/stab. Especially if majority of other heroes do use swords much more proficiently.
For instance, majority of heroes can thrust but Warden can't although his sword is perfect for that. BP, PK, Gladiator, Kensei, Orochi, Warlord, they all have option to thrust with their swords.
Other example would be half swording. Including new hero, we have total of 3 heroes for which it would be appropriate to half sword. Guess who is the one that doesn't get that move? Warden of course.
Murder stroke is last option that I was hoping will be included during last rework but instead we got that dash attack and murder stroke would be more appropriate imo. Once again, Warden stays without realistic move/technicq for his weapon.
Fast forward to today and developers decided to give us Vanguard, who is similar in appearance to Warden, has similar (almost same) weapon, quite a few completely same moves PLUS gets thrusting and half swording , moves that were asked by community for so long to be included in Warden move set. And few excellent looking entry level armors and swords. But its gender locked which by itself isn't issue for a completely new hero but since it's practically Warden 2.0, for people who mained Male Warden for years, it is an issue of simply not being able to continue their story. Not to mention how it was a lame move anyway because it would be much cooler to see new weapon such as mace or maybe even spear without shield.
So our Warden still stays the same, brute with ridiculous swings and almost no finesse or real swordsmanship. Only guy in the world who doesn't use his longsword way it was intended to be used. Such a slap in the face for every loyal Warden in all these years.
My question to developers is what we as community need to do in order for you to give Warden few actual longsword moves? Do we need petitions to sign, money to collect? Just tell us. Please.
Instead of just giving few moves to Warden and Appoloyn armor you basically made new hero out of obvious Warden rework. And now that moves are already applied to another hero my guess is that injustice and ignorance toward Warden will continue?
I never asked for any buffs, just more realistic way of fighting where he would use his sword properly. YouTube and Reddit are full of similar requests/comments.
Your perception of knight armed with longsword as "tin can" is unfortunately that of developers as well and reason why we have character with such a poor skills when it comes to his weapon.
Who is gonna pay for a real swordsmen to come in and help with the animations for warden? I don't want my money going into that pointless change. Literally nobody in this game uses completely proper techniques and a lot of those can be subjective anyways. Last time they hired a 'shaolin monk' to do wulin and half of their moves are still 'worthy of being beaten with a bamboo stick' by a real shaolin master because they are done so poorly.Originally Posted by NHLGoldenKnight Go to original post
I don't think you understand that these heroes are an expression of art from real world fighting inspiration, they aren't under any obligation to fight like anything in our history books because this is a whole different universe.
By the way, if it would be realistic, we could immedietely put most non-knights in the thrash, realistically, they would be invulnerable to everything the Japanese can throw at them, the Vikings wear far worse armor, and from the Chinese, only the boomer has some real battlefield weapon, but he would still instantly die because of the unprotected head. Pk and glad would go from knights as well. So the playables would be Warden, Lawbringer, Conqueror, Black Prior, Centurion, and maaaaaybe Warlord. But if we go deeper, we can realise none of them have any chance against the Lawbringer, who wears weapons 200 years more advanced than anybody else. So, Lawbringer should be the only playable character if we go for the realism.

I don't think you understand how easy would be to implement those changes, especially because how well longsword fighting is documented and how strong HEMA has become. I could bet you that they would find trained volunteers in their city to do that for free.Originally Posted by CanadianSoupMan Go to original post
Also, why there is only problem getting animations for Warden but not for new hero? Only thing Warden needed is few of the moves that new hero has but Warden was introduced years back as original hero when Ubisoft had much larger budget. What stopped them ?
In is unrealistic to expect 100% realistic fight but heroes such as Lawbringer or Warlord show that is possible to have fun and still use weapons, for the most part, in proper way.
Please, look at all other swordsmen and actually majority of other heroes and if you have any knowledge about historic martial arts, it's clear how Warden is far less proficient than almost every other hero.
