Teammate markers will only show on the minimap when the HUD option for teammates is set to on. If I set the actual HUD option to off but have the minimap option for teammates set to on, they do not show at all.
If I set HUD option on and minimap option off, the teammates will still show on the minimap.
It appears that this is changing the player marker. If HUD option is on, teammates will always show in the minimap no matter what but the player marker on the minimap is dependent on the teammate minimap option - on = player icon shows on the minimap, off = player icon does not show on the minimap.
