Wildlife of Yara: what to expect

Since Far Cry 3, wildlife has become increasingly crucial in the franchise, culminating with FC Primal and its companion system. Yet, with a less diverse cast of animals in 5/New Dawn and the setting of 6 in the "not that famous for land vertebrates" Carribean islands, lets see some ot the animals we ll face and others we may cross path with!

    .Confirmed:

-Dogs: Like all previous games, FC6 will feature dogs, as seen with Chorizo. We ll most likely see other breeds and specimens, both as companions or enemies.

-Chicken: Collector box art shows a magnificent green rooster. Is it an "Amigo" like Chorizo? Maybe a serial winner of chicken fights with saw blades glued to its talons!

-Crocodiles: Cuban/american crocodile surely take the spot in what we ve seen so far, with both a special outfit DLC pack, first sequence of trailer and even a representation on collector box art (another amigo to hire?). Hopefully, they ll be able to move like the ones from AC Origins and not just look at us while we swim.

-Horses: as seen on a screenshot, horses seem to be part of the adventure. Probably more convenient that an car in the wild but can we repair those with the good ol' blowtorch?

-Panther (probably jaguar): A specific DLC pack offers a skin "Champagne" for what looks like a big cat. Yara being near South America, I d expect more a jaguar than a leopard but who knows! Probably a new version of Peaches from 5!

    . Personal guesses:

-The trio Boar/Deer/Tapir. Been in most FC games. Tapirs is the wildest guess of 3 but once more, Yara's Cuban feels makes it ideal to put some south American wildlife around. Especially if the models already exist.

-Iguanas. Endemic land vertebrates are pretty rare on those islands. Aside from domestic animals, big land vertebrates on large island-ish countries like dominican republic or Cuba are reptiles and a well known island dweller of the Caribbean is the iguana.

-Sharks. Back in New Dawn, sharks are a given in a sea surrounded island. Which species though?

-Eagles. Eagles have been around in every FC since 3 (with its rare of the rare black eagle). Yara will probably have a species around too.

    -Personal hopes (wild guesses):

While some small beasts like hutias and apes seems a given (being already in games like AC Black flag for similar locales), I hope for actual land predators. Hard to think about actual south American threats besides ocelot (not that big) so I d love a few surprising ones like FC3 and 4 had with Galapagos tortoises, mountain lions and goliath tigerfish far from their actual countries and brought by poachers to the Rook islands or Kyrat. From hyenas to dingoes, I hope for a medium pack hunting predator.

As for big ones, jaguar is probably there but outside the poacher plot, I can t think of anything bigger in the area. Bye bears and tigers. I d love to be proven wrong though.

In the end, I d let my wildest dreams go real and hope for a terrifying trio:
    - Anaconda (finally a new model!)
-Red bellied piranhas (fishing is still a thing right?)
-Hippos. You know the story about Escobar's hippos? Then Yara needs to have some!

All of those weird theories are mainly fueled by a running rumor talking about "helping zoos". Parts of the rumors have been proven right so who knows! And you? What do you want to see dwelling in Yara?

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag is set on the Caribbean Sea and one of the major cities is Havana, Cuba. We could see jaguars, monkeys, rabbits, ocelots and pigs. I'm expecting pirate treasures will be the new 'Prepper Stashes' and 'Treasure Hunt'.

Considering I want a return to hunting animals for pelts to craft capacity upgrades, I want to see as much variety as could be believable. Plenty of fodder animals like deer and boar of course, but some bigger exotic animals as well, the hippos you mentioned would be an interesting addition, an animal that could be a threat from land or sea. I think RDR2 did a really great job with the hunting. FC has never been as realistic as RDR2 aimed to be, so I don't expect even that level of depth, I just hope it's better than it has been in the past, and certainly more necessary than it was in FC5...

Far Cry 6 shouldn't look like Far Cry 3!

I mean flora. (fauna as well)

The difference should be clear. It should be eye-catching. At first glance.

It's another part of the world. Yes, also tropics. But another!
    With another atmoshere.

Jungles - shouldn't look like in Far Cry 3.
    Sometimes thicker, sometimess less.
    Jungles should be more detailed.
    More closer to reality.

    People should see PROGRESS!

    They will compare.

Far Cry 3 has its unique atmosphere.
And Far Cry 6 must have its own unique atmoshere.

Playing Far Cry 6 we shouldn't find ourselves in Far Cry 3 atmoshere again!
With the same palms and jungles.

Zone is one - tropics. Climate is just the same.
    But places are different.
    With their own specificities.

To highlight these specificities, using the same engine won't be easy, but it should be done.

I ve been working (I m a faunistic expert) both in Dominican republic and Indonesia, and clearly, since the far cry games have put a big emphasis on a diversity of herbivores and predators, I just can t see how Yara could go with a "realistic" fauna without being really dull.

I mean as I said, aside from farm animals, places like these are only inhabited by reptiles, and the big ones are either sea turtles, crocodiles or iguanas. Due to being islands, the only mammals around are the ones that travelled to it through rafting, meaning hutias, solenodons etc...

AC Black Flag had used a good chunk of south American wildlife on islets where their presence was unrealistic yet effective. But the problem is that even if we do have jaguar and ocelot around, we ll have nothing else has a threat besides crocodiles.

If we look back at the formula for predators only (not counting aggressive omnivores or static creatures like crocs/eels)

.FC3: rabid dogs/dingoes/komodo dragons/leopard/sumatran tiger/Asian black bear/bullsharks (+thylacine, white tiger and mountain lion as dlc)

    .FC4: dholes/wolves/clouded leopard/snow leopard/Bengal tiger/Asian black bear/Himalayan bear/eagle/goliath tigerfish/honey badger (+yeti as dlc).

    FC Primal: African wild dogs (called dholes ingame)/dire wolf/sabertooth tiger/cave lion/brown bear/cave bear/eagles/badger/leopard (called jaguar)/snow leopard/Bitefish.

    FC5: wolves/mountain lion/wolverine/black bear/grizzly/eagle (+crocodiles as DLC/Sharks, bitefish and wild dogs+ mutant variants for new Dawn).

    FC6: jaguar....?

FC5 actually had a bunch of big herbivores that were threats much like FC4 rhinos were (bulls/bisons/orignal). But in Yara, without some side additions, I don t see how wildlife could be at least as diverse as 5 which was one of the less populated in terms of animals. That s why i am hoping for some craziness and hopefully some new models.

Interestingly, AC has been using models of FC (deers and bears) while we have yet to see some of AC animals in FC. Lynx from odyssey would have been a great addition to 5 but wasn t there. Same for coyote or beaver that is referenced in lots of places in the game. On the other hand, they did a good job at diversifying birds for hunting but those only gave the same feather item with no real value. True good surprise was the fishing system, even though it consisted mostly of trouts with a few weird and awesome additions. Truly hope it is back for 6.

Concerning the flora, the problem is a bit more complex. FC3 did not have a big emphasis on flora. Aside from mangroves and palm beach, the forests all looked alike and the Savannah look of the south island was nothing like an actual Indonesian/papuan biome. With 6 been in the carribean, problem is that island vegetation is much more limited (because brought having to travel through sea or seed dispersers) so once more, vegetation diversity in terms of trees is not that diverse and lots of plants from islands like Cuba or Dominican republic have been brought by men and turned wild.

Same conditions of life tend to push evolution in the same direction, even from different lineages (there is an evident convergent evolution between rainforest plants and animals in the Americas and Asia/Africa due to same ecological niches. Geographically both places can be very distant yet share organisms adapted to roughly same needs. You ll find hornbills instead of toucans, monitor lizards instead of iguanas, banians instead of large contrefort roots trees... And you will also find same genus of species (palms, paletuviers, etc) that travel all around the oceans.
So since FC3 did not push its vegetation representation to something truly unique but more "tropical postcard like", I don t see how 6 could look really different.

If there are jaguars in the game.....this creature should be as well.

    Black jaguar.

Black cats themselves are rather mystical. But black jaguar is something.
    I like jaguars growling.
    Deep bass.....going into the ground.

To hear it nearby, in the night = never forget.

    2) Insects also important. Their sounds.
It makes nature in the game more alive.

    Birds are singing, insects buzzing.

    Field sounds, with cicadas....

Jungle sounds, with birds singing and animals voices....

    Sounds, sounds, sounds.....

Melanistic panthers have been part of FC in many games as the "rare panther". Pretty sure we ll get a black whatever in game.

I m truly hoping for improved models and animations, especially for crocodiles. I can't tell how many times I just swam near a 4m long croc in 3,4,5,Primal without even feeling remotely threatened. The fact that they stay still is key to grab prey from the shore but they should chase you if you good in the water. Or at least swim slowly towards you. Even the snakes had better gameplay mechanics by attacking only when threatened and moving around.

I wonder if the fishing system will be back and if this time it will be possible to do so from a beach. Not to catch Marlins or sharks but small reef fish like in 3 (I did kill those with grenades to unlock the notebook entries).

I suspect a Tiger shark or a Bull Shark. I hope Anaconda's will appear in FC6.

Tiger shark would be a nice huge ocean threat. Actually, I liked the idea that FC3 had the great white shark as a predator alongside bullshark before being scrapped. Problem is that sea was not that much of a playground in the game and I doubt that most player actually saw the whole diversity of models used underwater (sea turtles, manta rays, moray eels.. ).

I m hoping for moray eels to make a comeback, maybe with barracudas or something else. Underwater exploration could be nice since we ve seen conquistador background in the sequence trailer. Sunken ships could be nice to explore just like it was doable in AC Black flag.

An interesting thing would be to see how Dani Rojas reacts to its island (plants, animals, island backstory). Due to being a native of Yara, he/she probably knows more about the place than most former characters did of their own game setting, Takkar aside (being an experienced hunter). Jason and Ajay were new to the wild environments of Kyrat and Rook islands but Dani surely knows about his/her island and its wildlife.

I wonder, will the nature be as close as possible to the Cuban nature or will there be regions with Central and South American nature as well.....

    Cuban nature is rather self-sufficient.

    Cuban jungles - classic....

    And cuban forests like these....

    Looks like a fairy tale.

With more dense parts of it.....

But if there will be parts with South American nature on the map....

I think something like Angel Falls and plato Roraima, with its alien looking surface on the top, won't be bad.
