Anyone tried it with at least 50% handling? It should make a huge difference with the low mag size aswell (fast reload).
You don't even need that much handling, it's quite stable now i personally use the 20% stability magazine and that's quite decent on it.

Personally it isnt the damage the shotguns deal that is the issue its the fact the AI shreds you armour in a split second while it takes a clip to remove armour , by the time you have done this the AI will drop you, when they fix armour and our survival ability i will start using a shot gun again, so I guess i wont be running a shotgun anytime soon. Although the DZ is a different story, AI is a little squishier so I do run a Tactical SBS, has good damage and is fast firing and works well with shield

This has been pretty close to my experience. I would love to be able to use a shotgun more but in most situations an NPC with any kind of armor shreds my armor a lot more quickly than I can shred theirs. I feel that’s mostly due to the weakness of defensive attributes and not the shotgun. I did put together a build with an M870 that’s fun to run around with on hard and pop reds and purples. I can take it into some of the easier missions on Challenging as well.

As for the M16, I haven’t tried it since the last buff a couple of updates ago. I’m honestly not even sure I’ve had one drop. Generally I like the MDR as far as rifles go, and I still pull out my Baker’s Dozen on occasion as it still gets the job done.

You just found out why people only use the sweet dreams to whack a mole enemies and never shoot the gun, it's skill and shield builds best friend, instant kill without having to worry with things such as investing in damage or shotguns actually. It's the best shotgun because you don't need to actually shoot it once to reap it's rewards

Playing a shotgun build almost exclusively.

Heroic for Missions, Challenging with 4 directives (leaving out the special ammo one, can't stand being constantly shocked) for open world.

Sweet dreams as the main gun, a SIG556 AR with strained for use against heavies and dogs and the named Orbit Revolver for perfect Finisher.
Running Firewall spec for the shield, actively using the flamethrower if facing 3+ NPCs.
Second skill is defender drone for general use, EMP against Blacktusk.
Chest is a Gilaguard with Intimidate, Backpack Matador.
I'm alternating between 4piece Foundry Bulwark with the Holster recalibrated to Damage, and 3piece with Ninjabike Kneepads.
So 3-4 armor cores with +15% from gearsets and multiple strong bonusarmor mechanics (Adrenaline rush, Ninjabike talent, firewall cover2cover) and a t3-4 crusader shield.
All secondary cores are red: ~20% handling, rest CHC/CHD with the exception of 2 mods that are defense from elites.

The gameplay is fast paced, tactical and extremely fun!

The gun itself is actually pretty good with a bit of weapon handling.
One or two hits reds in my setup on heroic, but indeed on veteran NPCs the talent is great: popping out the shield and just clobbering them while running past is hard to beat (excuse pun)!
Being able to floor reds/violets at will plays very well with some resistance to elites and defenderdrone (~45% damage reduction combined) as well.
