Bring down the low level players, totally fair....

This is the first time that me and my team are playing in legendary arenas. My team is composed of some 7000 range players, while most of them are in the 6000, 5800 range. We even have two or three members as low as 4000.

It would seem, that the game puts you to fight against high tier members when you are low tier, and you confront lower tiers when you are high tier... these are some screenshoots of one of our newest members (4700 range) on this recent war (June-4-2020):

As you can see, he's low level range: 4500. The game is pairing him up against players up to 8000, three times in a row.!.. While me for example (level 7000) paired me up with two 7000 and two others in the 6000 range. So the question is... Is the game purposedly bringing low level players down?
    Why would you do this?

What League are you in? There's a pretty big range in Silver League, but Gold League has all the top players, and not as many low rank players.

Based on my experience, Silver League often saw me matched with players as low as 2000s, and as high as 7000s or occasionally 8000s, though those ones were rare. In Gold League, it's rare to face an opponent below 5000, and those who ARE below 5000 in a Gold League team pretty much should EXPECT to be steamrolled each week. Built-in incentive to get stronger.

If you are in Gold League, I have no sympathy. Come back to me when you get bracketed with 4 of the top 50 teams, 3 of whom are top 10 (F2P Whales, Illuminati, and Diretide), then maybe I'll find a bit of sympathy for your plight.

PS: My team, Montréal Park, has 41 gold shield players, and 9 silver shields. Only ONE of those silvers is currently below 5000, and that's actually an alt account of one of our co-leaders. We are still getting 0s and 1s from at least a third of the team in Gold League, perhaps even higher. Rob4Zod is our team leader, I'm one of the co-leaders.

As stated above, it's our first time in gold leagues. I understand that we are probably going to have our asses returned to silver by next week. and that's totally fine, it's part of the game. What I find pretty unfair is that the game seems to hate low level players. You are telling me that the game can't find among all the teams that are coming from silver to gold a 4700-5000 player for my team mate?
Where is the risk, by the way, in putting a level 8900 against a 4700?

    That's totally nuts!

As stated above, this is "the first time that [you] and [your] team are playing in legendary arenas."

Since the first legendary arena, which is Arena 11, requires 6000 SR, and there are players in legendary arenas as low as Bronze League, your statement left much to be assumed.

Team Wars matchmaking is based STRICTLY upon league*. All matches are within the same league, and SR has absolutely NOTHING to do with it. When Team Wars was first introduced, SR WAS how they matched players. And do you know what happened? Players who were ABOVE 7000 were deranking to BELOW 2000 just to get easy fights! Now you tell me, how is that any fairer than the current system? Deranking is already at epidemic levels in this game. Do you REALLY want it to get WORSE?!? Because that's what would happen if we went back to the old system! And your poor potato teammate would still get matched against the same overpowered opponents, except this time they would look like 4000s players instead.

Legendary League is HARD! It is the BEST OF THE BEST! Do you really expect every potato who decides to join a Gold League team to get a cakewalk? He has two options: leave the Gold League team, or "git gud."

    * Sole exception is if a player cannot find a match within their league, they will be matched with an opponent from the league immediately below.

I agree the matchmaking needs improvement to match players with similarly skilled players. Many suggestions have been made on how to change this so I will not get into this, the devs should know by now that their matchmaking system for team wars needs to be improved.

Keep in mind that in the Gold Leagues a very low percentage of players are below 6000 SR. So if you are expecting a player under 6000 to match with another player under 6000 the odds are pretty low that one will be available at that moment. The game also doesn't want a player to wait 10, 20, 30 minutes to find a match with a player at their SR so it expands its search to include other players which are most likely of higher SR. The reverse also happens to players of very high SR, an 8000+ SR player will not be matched easily with another 8000+ SR as there aren't an infinite amount to match with, so the game will expand it's search to match with other players available and looking for a match. This unfortunately results in some very unbalanced TW matches.

Perhaps as an idea, the game should only try to match players with an SR of +/- 1000 from their own SR... if after 3 minutes the game cannot find a match, the game should prompt the player with a popup message if they accept to expand their search to anyone available. This way a player with low SR can wait for a better matchup or risk expanding the search

I wanted to edit my previous reply, but seems that I can't... I was refering to what Rob4Zod was saying...
Another option, would be to establish a limit:

Player A ranged 6000 can play with another player 6500 or 5500... for example, a +500 or -500, treshold... that would be fair.

If the system can't fid such a player, then as Rob4Zod is saying, the game could ask if you want to increase the player database.

@cural42, you started as a potato player, I started as a potato player, everybody started like that, a little bit of fairness doesn't hurt. How can you "gitGud" against a player that doubles you in level?
