    Smasheroo 109E, BL.

You might look into the Squadron canopy for the F6F, JG2---for some crazy reason Trumpeter "blistered" the F6F canopy and gave it a outward swell that's not on the real item. I've been trying to think of ways to get around this. The ones I've seen built look weird with the default canopy.

    Hi Leit
it's the Tamiya kit 35300 - the new one. The enginnering of the kit parts is phantastic, but the decals really su**s.

I checked the canopy and found it out at 1 to 2 mm. I see no trouble with it. I can add a small strip of plastic and it's perfectly flat. I might do this anyway as I'd like it to be open and the plastic strip will keep it sitting level as there is no track to hold it in place in stock kit form. The canopy is soft and not brittle so getting it to go straight is a breeze. The windscreen is correct without the upper brace for a late Cat. I'm happy with it. I have a plan for strengthening the wings and filling the small gap too. As soon as the 109 is done I'll be going all out on this baby.

Check out the Eduard pit. What you can't see in this poor quality scan is the beautiful raised detail of even the tiniest switch and button. There is another complete sprue of pe behind this one all for the cockpit!

Here is the snag---the sides of the windscreen and hood of the F6F-3 and F6F-5 are straight until curving at the very top. Trumpeter started the curve too low which gives the canopy a strange look.

Great work on the Matilda, K. This year was interesting for the British tank modeler with the new improved Matilda and Bronco releasing the later A13 Cruisers. Finally, some early war British armor.

Yes, seems modeller for Allied armor are meek and very easy to satifiy with some new models, whereas the big companies are lauching tons of German armor.

Next on my schedule is to finish the Matilda, then next the Char B1 will be on my bench and after that the AFV-Club RAAC Centurion Mk.5/1 Vietnam version. The A13 seems a bit a strange thing to me, I don't know if I should like it or not.

Hey, no worries if your girlfriend takes you shopping! I had to go with my mom and sis, and while they were browsing around I picked myself up a nice big copy of the Flying Legends 2010 calendar. The 16 plates are big enough and nice enough to frame. Was worth it, drudging through the makeup and clothes and annoying mall goers to get this gem...at a mall.

Why is the cowling clear? Is it meant to give you access to the engine after completing it?

That tank is marvelous, looks really really real.

    Bf-109 is superb Buglord

I thought I would pose a quick question to the experts here. In my hobby shop I spied a couple very old kits of the Ca-13 Boomerang. One is Airfix, the other MPC. Oddly enough, they both sport the same box-art. Are these the same kit, or are there any differences between the two manufacturers?

You've convinced me. I ordered two vac canopy sets from Squadron. I ordered two as I have an experiment planned for one of them. I better go back to working on the 109 now before I get too distracted by the Hellcat.

It is indeed to display the engine but I will paint mine. On some Trumpeter kits you get an entire extra fuselage in clear. Trump also includes lots of internal details so you could do a cutaway of the model if you wanted. I'm just going to build what will be visible on this one.
