I'm running the game quite comfortably now. After some initial problems with the launcher, I've done a makeshift solution which is to deactivate "resident shield" in AVG, so it doesn't think that "rendobj.dll" is a virus and prevents me from playing the game.
My graphics settings:
Res: 1920x1080
Anti-Alias: 2X
Full Screen: On
Anti-Epilepsy Filter: Off
Advanced options:
Everything on max, except:
Forest: Low
Buildings: High
---
With these settings I'm seeing framerates around 25-30 at low altitude and over land. May dip below 20 in the middle of London.
50-60fps at high altitude or over the ocean.
Tried a 6v6 dogfight (not online) and it was quite fun at high framerates (was too busy with the enemy to pay a lot of attention to the Fraps counter in the corner, but it was above 40 all the time), even though my poor Hurricane was shot down after about five minutes.
In other words... it works fine for me.
My computer specs:
CPU:Core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz (I don't overclock... ever)
MoBo: Asus P6T Deluxe, X58
RAM: Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333Mhz - 6GB
OS: Windows Vista 64-bit
Graphics card: Zotac GeForce GTX 580 1536MB Amp! Edition
Soundcard: Creative SB X-Fi Xtremegamer
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB SATA2
Graphics Driver: Nvidia 266.58
All games installed on separate partition of the big disk and Windows swap file on a separate older 200GB SATA1-disk from my old PC.
No games installed in Windows default "c:\Program files", because it *always* causes problems in my experience (locked folders, hidden files, administrator access etc. etc.).
No overclocking, no hacking, no third-party "performance-enhancing software".
Regular defragging of all partitions, and regular cleanup with CCleaner.

All said, I really hope patches will come to both improve performance (i have some micro-stutters) and remove bugs. I have had absolutely NO crashes to desktop, and can even alt-tab to write this message (my game is actually running now), but not everyone is as fortunate.

Final note:
A flight sim like this will most likely last for many years (I played Il-2 1946 as late as last week, after all). It will also get lots of patches and mods, so I'm not worried.
It's unfortunate that economy dictates release dates, but having played computer games since 1985, I'm no stranger to problems and bugs.
Please everyone, calm down and be patient. Very few advanced games work properly the first month after release (Remember SH3, SH4, FS9, FSX, Company of Heroes, Lock On, The Witcher and so on and so forth.) They work great now however, and everyone praises them for being great... which they always were.
I think IL2: Cliffs of Dover is a diamond in the rough, and I KNOW the dev team is working hard to turn it into a real gem.
Thank you for a great game, and may it only get better so that everyone can enjoy it as I do.
And, if you think i'm lying...

The key here, with this game in its current state, is the videcard and Vram. Rockin a GTX580 with 1.5gb+ vram does help. I've seen people with 2gb 6xxx videocards also reporting good FPS and smooth sailing. There is a crapload of rendering going on in this sim and like it is today, it's not really optimized for a balanced workload.
Two weeks!
Yes, it's easy to see from my specs where I've chosen to use money. A strong graphics card with lots of ram will almost always save the day, esp. on un-optimized games. But the rest of my computer is not extreme (in my opinion)Originally posted by kimosabi79:
