Having played MMOs my whole life this is how it usually goes.
1) Dailies- you do these to get X currency and work toward a season reward: usually skins, weapons, cosmetics, dances, etc. Or for opening crates to upgrade gear or skills
2) Weeklies- Like dailies but take give better rewards and usually capped to 40-50 runs a week [like swtor], almost always done by 2-3 players
3) Monthlies- Usually for fighting elite mobs or small heroic world bosses [give boss exclusive items at low %s]
4) Heroics- These are 50 player hunts against Pve or a PvP target. They usually always in game as mega threats [kraken in game]. These can be said to be world bosses. Very hard to take down and provide entry level end game gear.
5)Raid bosses- mid tier bosses designed to scale relative to player or group collective power. To ensure players skill not gear results in win or lose. Think of this as forsaken crucible in destiny 2 on hard mode. These are the first bosses that drop end game gear [legendaries]
6) PvP- This are missions we’re you fight other players. Usually for the strongest gear in the game. [suggested name Dead Zone in Bermuda triangle]
7) X threat hunt- Killing npcs that are like world bosses but designed for 1 player fights [think MHW]
