If this seems too long then just read the bits in bold.
With all the threads on how bad the RNG was, and how the drops favoured rainbow stats, I set myself a task of farming, from scratch, a full red build and a full yellow build.
I would guess that all in all it took between 15-20 hours max.
It was all done in Heroic open world/CPs, and only 2 heroic missions, as they are not efficient for farming.
I instantly trashed anything that was rainbow or didnt have at least 1 stat matching the core, and didnt bother recording the numbers, as that isnt relevant to what I was trying to do
I farmed mainly Murakami, Wyvern, Hana-U, Providence, Gloves, Chests, Holsters and Knees as they were all I could really use that were in open world as targeted loot at the time.
I know its probably too late for this now with the new update coming, but I didnt have anything else to do in the game anyway

Conclusion - Im not doing this to say - it works this way for me so it must work that way for everyone - I realise this is my own personal experience, and I fully appreciate that others might not have the same results, but that is the main reason I did it - my perception of the game/RNG was very different to what I kept reading on here, and wanted to see if it was as bad for me, as it was, seemingly, for many others.
Are either of the builds as good as the builds I already had? No
Are the stats good enough to take part in the very hardest content? No
But I also think, that in the time they took to put together, that they are more than reasonable too (obviously helped by being able to recalibrate on a maxed stat).
And I feel that, the yellow build at least, would enable me to continue farming heroic open world, as its not too dissimilar to drone and turret builds I use myself. All of the farming was done with such a build anyway, but with 3 Hard wired instead of Murakami.
My, personal, feelings on the RNG is that there are not too many rainbow drops, as the majority clearly had at least 1 stat matching the core.
Even though the ranges werent too bad on the gear, I found very little max stats anywhere, so even if all 3 matched more often I think I would have struggled to get much more out it.
But again, this was more than likely simply down to the short time frame.
I only kept a few of the pieces as 99% where worse than what I had already, and thats sort of my problem with RNG as it stands - based on this it seemed relatively easy to put together a workable build, but the really high drops are probably too rare to improve it in, what many people would feel, is a reasonable time frame, especially if they really wanted to min/max it.
If they are indeed raising the stat ranges, then hopefully it will become much easier to get full colour builds to a standard most would be happy with.
You cannot compare drops per person in this game, example i have been giving for sometime now:
I group up with my son, his gotten 35+ exotics in the last 3-4 weeks, i have gotten 1.
Working as intended? I think not.
I have got to a point of CBA with the loot system anymore, they don't care so nor do i anymore.
Sounds about right. My main issue hasn't necessarily been rainbow loot but the low rolls on the right attributes combined with too many wrong attributes with the right talents on chests and backpacks or the wrong talent with more than one attribute I didn't care for. Also, all the stuff I didn't want seemed to always drop with the highest rolls. Trollolololol???
I did mention that wasnt the point of why I did it, but rather just to see, what my personal RNG was like.Originally Posted by Riflemania Go to original post
And in my conclusion I said if rolls dropped in a higher range so you had a better chance of 2 high stats (for all red) then it might make it easier for everyone.
On exotics - I dont have much luck with them either, but then I dont set out to farm specifically for them, so my chance is much lower anyway. I dont see any fun in running the same mission over and over again all day every day, I prefer heroic open world where everything can get a little more chaotic![]()
As stated above, to each his own. Some players have zero issues with RNG, while others are punished by it. I haven't been able to assemble a decent Red Build since they did the re-design of the current build design. I find myself haven't seen anything but Rainbow materials and then the scores are usually 50% at best. Which is useless
Very true. I didn’t get a complete build (of any kind) with more than middle stats until after TU7 at which time I was able to match make in to challenging missions and contribute. I never saw a single max stat on any gear or mod piece until TU8. I now have a Red and Yellow build (Yellow one completed a couple weeks ago.) and have now solo’d my first Heroic. Doing Challenging and Heroic world levels really helped with higher stat gear but it could only improve over what I was getting. Yet I have played nearly everyday since day one and it should not have taken this long to get decent builds, in my opinion. Oddly enough, farming for exotics was easier for me. I usually got them within 5 - 8 tries, except for the Big Horn that I want but can’t seem to get. Still get a lot of rainbow drops though.Originally Posted by YodaMan 3D Go to original post
Outstanding % on those pieces & the fact that you managed to get so many of the same color is what's rattling my cage. Rainbow loot & under 50% values are killing me. Will see if I have better luck after the patch this night. Seeing what others have in terms of loot quality drops sure sucks the joy out of logging in & give my luck a shot.
Wow! That looks like the usual things you get from loot containers. I simply refused to open any since 9.1 dropped. The highest % I got from a heroic named boss after a mission on all 3 attributes on the same item is between 50-65%. If I ever get something above 65% it's simply a single attribute, while the other 2 are waaay under 50%. But usually they drop 45-50%.Originally Posted by Riflemania Go to original post
Except for rainbow drops. Those are almost all above 75%, but I have no use for them. I'm a hybrid fan & the combinations that I get just don't work for me. I'm seeing a lot of images around here & Reddit of outstanding values & combinations on gear for some. Even crafted items! Some have this game running at full capacity!
I really dont bother with missions that much unless its to complete any of the seasonal/manhunt stuff. Heroic open world/CPs are more fun to me, due to the randomness that can happen, and was by far the best way to farm for better gear.Originally Posted by PhantomPraetor Go to original post
