Gracias ubisoft.
-Are you excited for this setting? If so, what has you most excited?
Not really. Viking/Norse setting doesn't do much for me. My favorite setting has been Ancient (Ptolemaic) Egypt in Origins. I would have preferred that to have been older too, like Middle to New Kingdom. Could have had Ramesses II!
-In your opinion, does this setting fit well within the universe of AC?
I suppose, we'll have to see what happens.
-Are you interested in seeing the religious cultures that dominated the cultures of the land represented in the game? (Norse Paganism and Christianity)
Yes, especially the interactions between the two religious cultures. And maybe some Valkyries!
-Have the trailers shown a world that looks aesthetically pleasing to you? Why or why not?
For the most part. But they have been all too dark (visually) for me, but maybe it will look better on the PS4.
-What are your thoughts on the phrase "A Viking experience in the world of Assassin's Creed"?
It seems to be exactly what it says. We shall see.
-What concerns do you have for the setting?
I hope to Odin that there aren't extensive naval requirements. That was the main thing about Odyssey that I didn't like. I don't like naval battles. It's fine to sail from one place to another, but fighting on the sea did nothing for me and was just a giant chore.
-What do you want to see more of from the setting?
As I mentioned before, Valkyries would be cool.
-Was this a setting you were hoping to see from the franchise?
No. But they already did Ancient Egypt, so that was my big thing.
-Are you excited for this setting? If so, what has you most excited?
Yes, I like vikings. I am looking forward to spending time in the viking world.
-In your opinion, does this setting fit well within the universe of AC?
I suppose. After Ancient Egypt and Greece vikings seems like a natural next thing.
-Are you interested in seeing the religious cultures that dominated the cultures of the land represented in the game? (Norse Paganism and Christianity)
Yes, I like Norse/Germanic paganism.
-Have the trailers shown a world that looks aesthetically pleasing to you? Why or why not?
For the most part yes, though if I were in charge I would have made the vikings look a bit more like historical vikings and less like the TV series 'Vikings' vikings.
-What are your thoughts on the phrase "A Viking experience in the world of Assassin's Creed"?
'Oh nice. I like vikings.'
-What concerns do you have for the setting?
What concerns me about every Ubisoft game: too much wokeness.
-What do you want to see more of from the setting?
Iceland, Greenland, Vinland: the vikings were explorers as well as pirates.
-Was this a setting you were hoping to see from the franchise?
I wasn't hoping anything, but I am pleased with it.
And what would you consider “too much wokeness”?Originally Posted by jfkflevoland Go to original post

The vikings settled in England but ORIGINATED from Norway, Denmark, Sweden.
I already feel I've bought the cat in the sack to be honest. I didn't read this information to begin with. If I'd known the stage was set in England I definitely wouldn't have bought the game!
I was looking forward to some true and original material on my ancestors but apparently get an adaption meant to please customer areas?
I really don't know what to say? Not at all! This is a disappointment of dimensions!
QUESTION:
Is there any way to get my purchase refunded? Since the game hasn't been released yet I can't have played it yet.
-Are you excited for this setting? If so, what has you most excited?
I never wanted an AC in this setting, but I figured it might happen eventually. What interests me most is the involvement of Darby and Jesper.
-In your opinion, does this setting fit well within the universe of AC?
Sure. Assassins can exist in any era. I wouldn't have chosen it for an AC game (I think dense cities work best), but in terms of lore, why not?
-Are you interested in seeing the religious cultures that dominated the cultures of the land represented in the game? (Norse Paganism and Christianity)
Yes. Like Ancient Aliens, Assassin's Creed has plenty to play with when it comes to religion.
-Have the trailers shown a world that looks aesthetically pleasing to you? Why or why not?
I'm not very impressed with the visuals. There is more to a pleasing aesthetic than realistic visuals, but since AC1 set the bar so high in terms of "next gen" graphics back in the day, anything less will always be somewhat disappointing to me (including the visual downgrade that was AC2).
-What are your thoughts on the phrase "A Viking experience in the world of Assassin's Creed"?
Like a pirate's life, I consider a Viking's life one of freedom. I'm no expert on historical Vikings, so maybe that's an ignorant take. Still, to be an Assassin is to be burdened with the weight of the cause. Edward resisted that cause, so I'm sure that aspect will play heavily into Eivor's narrative.
-What concerns do you have for the setting?
Too much wilderness. I haven't done a ton of research on the game, so perhaps this will not be an issue.
-What do you want to see more of from the setting?
I'm not very interested in Vikings, and I don't know much about them, so I'm not coming in with any hopes or expectations.
-Was this a setting you were hoping to see from the franchise?
No, but I wasn't hoping for a pirate or French Revolution setting either, so I'll let the game speak for itself.
-Are you excited for this setting? If so, what has you most excited?
Yes, I wish to explore the world of medieval Anglo-Saxon England and the thing that gets me the most is the setting.
-In your opinion, does this setting fit well within the universe of AC?
At the moment, it doesn't since AC has not visited the Middle Ages for quite some time and the Templar Order hasn't even been founded yet historically.
-Are you interested in seeing the religious cultures that dominated the cultures of the land represented in the game? (Norse Paganism and Christianity)
Yes, I am quite interested in seeing Christianity in Medieval England and the Norse Paganism of the Danes and other Scandinavian invaders.
-Have the trailers shown a world that looks aesthetically pleasing to you? Why or why not?
From what I seen, not really. It's rather depressing.
-What are your thoughts on the phrase "A Viking experience in the world of Assassin's Creed"?
Assassins and Vikings don't fit well together but I hope people can still play as an Assassin if they desire to in this game.
-What concerns do you have for the setting?
The historical accuracy is a big concern for me since the Vikings have been portrayed up to this point in a very anachronistic manner which is a pity for the real life Norse Raiders. I don't like seeing fantasy gear or weapons in these games. I understanding the need for creative liberty but I hope for moderation whenever possible. Parkour and the stealth are two things besides accuracy that is concerning, I hope for this game to retain the old AC style while being innovative.
-What do you want to see more of from the setting?
The Anglo-Saxons themselves and the ruins of Roman Britain.
-Was this a setting you were hoping to see from the franchise?
It wasn't, I was expecting a setting in Ancient Rome, Macedonia/the Hellenistic States (that isn't Late Ptolemaic Egypt) or Persia. To fulfill the ancient theme of the recent games so far which I am fan of. I rather see any of these settings than 9th century England but I am still quite interested.
As always, please feel free to add any thoughts you might have that are not covered by these example questions!
In a new Assassin's Creed game, I want to have fun, be immersed in the setting (be able to interact with people, objects like chairs, feel like you're actually in the early Middle Ages, etc), be a stealth player, be a warrior at times and if there is a modern aspect to it, for it to actually be interesting. I hope the story will be a good one and not a repetition of the past games. Lastly, I hope there won't be any modern politics or anything of that sort in this game. I just want to have fun.
It looks like this draws a lot on the Islandic tales about Ragnar Lothbrook, king of SWEDEN and DENMARK (known as Lothbrook but born Ragnar Sigurdsson) - Ragnar's father was a Swedish king (king Sigurd Hring the king of Sveariket - the part of Sweden that was never part of Norway or Denmark). So it is safe to assume that Ragnar was from that part of Sweden, he was familiar with the Viking town Birka (on an island in lake Malaren). (Sigurson means son of Sigurd) --- he became King of Sweden and Denmark - viking age Sweden and Viking age Denmark. Since the viking age, Sweden has grown in area at the expense of Norway and Denmark - i.e. the parts of Scandinavia which was Sweden back then has not turned into Norway or Denmark, it is the other way around. I.e. Ragnar Lothbrook himeself has NOTHING to do with viking age Norway. He was king of Sweden AND Denmark, and parts of what was north Denmark back den has become south Norway od TODAY... BUT RAGNAR LOTHBROOK did NOT originate from viking age NORWAY. This seems to be a common misunderstanding.
