Hi,
My name is Shmuel, and i really love the settlers series, ive played settlers 3,5,and 6.
The Graphics of settlers 4 hurt my eyes, as they were too small and too bright so much so that i felt i was going blind, anyone found a workaround?
Any way i wanted to ask how do you guys balance playing settlers with youre lives?
You know balance settlers with chores, work, laundry, studying, social lives, dating etc...
Im having problems, i said id limit use to 20 min, and than i find 3 hours later when i beat the mission and its midnight, that ive finishd playing.,
Im studying Animation and drawing and its hard, and chores aint easy, so i like to zone out a bit with a game of settlers.
And if i can limiit it to 20 min, than i can incorporate it into my life as a reward system.
But if im just spending days doing nothing by playing settlers.
This is how i get into trouble.
Any ideas on how to balance settlers and real life?
Hello Shmuel,
The reward system sounds like a good idea and seems to suit your style.
If the issue is that you can't stop after 20 minutes, maybe you could try a balance sheet. Create an Excel sheet and make a row for each day. Add 20 minutes every day as a credit and when you play Settlers take out whatever time you played. If you find yourself with a negative balance don't play for a few days until the balance is positive again.
Hey, I think Ove_Haithabu's idea with a stricter planning and clear visualization for you is a good idea.
Try setting a timer for your playsessions - singleplayer games fortunately have a save functionality which allow you to stop at any time and continue later on. Maybe you notice than 20min are too little cause you feel like you don't get done enough - maybe 30 or 40min provide you with a more fulfilling feeling and make it easier to stop cause you don't feel like you "just started".
Or try picking up something else to do on some days, e.g. shut down the PC entirely so you're not "tempted" and grab a book.
Generally, if you feel like it has a serious impact on your private life and prevents you from doing regular things studying and chores, consider getting in touch with a doctor or help groups. While there aren't as many offers in this regard yet as for other types of addicitions, it might be worth checking for offers online specific to your country.
