Various small UI/UX suggestions for next JD
- Remember last selected input method (e.g. Kinect or controller app on XB) and move the cursor to it next time you enter that menu
A very small detail. - Show a small "input method" icon next to DotW info
Aside of being informative, this would also help confidence - e.g. I find plenty of people thinking that 13K scores are all Kinect, though plenty of those are going to be scored with the controller app.
I believe all current input methods have one or other form of recognizable icon representation. - When grouping songs by star count, sort songs inside each group based on score
This would make it easier to see which songs you've scored best on / which songs you could potentially push over to the next rank - Add a "shuffle" sort mode
Shuffle all accessible songs (with or without JDU, depending on subscription state) on user login to form a list to look through.
Currently your best bet is to make a massive playlist of "candidates" and skip through ones you do not feel like dancing.
Personally I tend to scroll through JDU listing until something comes to mind, which works, but introduces bias against songs closer to the end of the list. - Add a "playlists" sort/group mode
Show each playlist as a category. Update on playlist actions on songs. That's it.
Currently it is problematic to check DotW score on a playlist song, or to move songs between playlists, or dance to just a single song if your intent was using a playlist as a collection of bookmarks. - Introduce an "advanced settings" menu in place of current "cross-play" button
(considering that you don't toggle cross-play often, if ever, an extra button press to reach it can be considered an appropriate sacrifice)
The following may reside inside aside of the cross-play button:
- Show score in "Sweat" mode
Perhaps this is different player to player, but personally I play JD almost exclusively in "sweat mode" (both to track rough amount of exercise and since this shows a timer), but this poses a challenge - once you're past 12K scores, it is hard to tell what exactly you've scored unless you've beaten your previous record (and taken note of it before starting the song). An option to display your score on results-screen despite playing in Sweat mode would therefore seem very useful. - Record/show per-song stats
Show total times played when in score mode.
Show your average calories burned (total calories / times played) when in sweat mode.
Badges on JD2020 songs are a good start, but then you have JDU. - (Kinect-specific?) Show "advanced" filters for Autodance
It comes to my attention that you already record the depth space on Kinect, which currently seems to be only used for two filters involving replacing your floor with colorful imagery.
Allowing to export both a regular autodance video and a B/W outline (much like what is shown in top UI) or a full depth buffer (B/W or R->G->B as shown in Kinect troubleshooter under "what else can Kinect see?") could help immensely in creation of JD-related video content, as currently your options with special effects are:
- Set up an actual green screen with sufficiently balanced lighting.
- Connect your Kinect to a computer (so that you can use one or other application to record and filter your footage) and use the phone controller app to control JD.
- Get a second Kinect to use as a camera (V2 Kinects are getting harder to come by, and Azure Kinect only retails in a few countries of now)
I do not have a PS Camera to test with, but I'm willing to assume that the accuracy leaves some to be desired there. - Reset scores (with confirmation)
Reset stored per-song scores to start anew. As of now, at least on XB1, you may permanently sabotage someone by simply logging into a Ubisoft account with much higher scores on their console, as save data is associated with a Microsoft account and stored on Ubisoft's side, and no amount of resetting game data, wiping cloud data, factory resetting the entire console, complaining to Ubisoft support and so on will rid you of obtained scores.
Have a nice day!
