So it seems loot boxes and random drops are gone in favour of end of quest rewards and static stat gear, while this sounds great in theory let me tell you how it can also be the biggest killer of the game.
You will unlock new gear in a linear progression, meaning you'll be guided into playing the game one way, a happy thing for old school AC fans but for those who like the ability to play their way which is what Ubisoft say they want to promote, it means loss of build diversity and shoehorning into specific gear and play styles that always appear ... There will be a meta and that meta will be the only path due to the lack of gear variation
Many games have done the static gear path only to undo it with random drops
See random drops do two things
Allow build diversity
Keep players playing to find the perfect gear
Replayability is being removed and I'm not sure Ubisoft even realise it
But the Problem with the random gear is also that you have tons of useless items, most of the time your reward for quests or clearing places is another gear with bad states. Also when you finally find sometime a good drop its only some % or numbers better then the previous one...Originally Posted by SUGACOMA Go to original post
We currently dont know much about the drop system but hearing that every gear will be unique and we have no more microtransactions lootboxes anymore are good news. Also fixed drops dont throw away build diversity you can still choose your gear as you want. They also improve this system by remove bad and useless drops.
In my opinion this is a great Evolution it looks like Ubisoft has learned from the Breakpoint debacle.
By lootboxes I meant the chests in game not microtransactions.
I get what you mean about it only being slightly better but some people really enjoy the math and searching for that perfect piece for their build ...
I just think this all gear is unique and limited to one time reward means o have no incentive to play more than once as I will have collected everything and from that I will create a build and when we are all discussing our build on forums and chat rooms and with our friends at home we will all be wearing the same gear and have nothing to really conversate about
Ah ok that made the discussion very differentOriginally Posted by SUGACOMA Go to original post
They just stated that Valhalla will have no loot boxes but didnt say anything about chests. As long Valhalla will have dont that much of chests as the older titles (most of them had pretty to much that where just her to fill the world) it will be ok.
Personally I enjoyed it more to have a armor what has really an special ability or is unique instead of just being different in numbers. But I think with many different unique armor pieces its also possible to create a lot of variant builds.
Odyssey was to much like an MMORPG with to many loot elements to me, also that they made the stealth all about numbers totally destroyed it for me.
So here are some stuff on the loot from some sources ...

It's not so much the removal of loot it's the aspect of fixing all gear so we are shoehorned into specific builds and playstyles
I'm concerned that you'll unlock assassin gear and the next level will be all about stealth where you earn hunter gear and the next level is about going hunting
This feels most definitely a step backwards to the freedom origins and most certainly odyssey brought to creating build diversity
Given the choice between looting chests and killing enemies fur 1 hour to get gear to see if it improves my build is infinitely more rewarding than spending an hour searching for flags, feathers and what other mundane crap they put in as content filler that has absolutely no impact on me character ... I may get a pixel trophy wow, rather have a new sword n helmet thanks
yea finding feathers in the old AC was ok but goin out and slaughtering a fort to get a drop that may or may not fit my playstyle felt more rewarding....mean yea I didn't always get that bada** weapon or armor piece but mean when I did it felt more accomplishing....rather have that then sum find 200/200 feathers for a meaningless achievement that gets me nothin...….now if they have a relic puzzle to find like the armor of the eagle bearer or bayek's medjay outfit or Aya's outfit <for the female players> then yea that would b a interesting concept but a forced build type playstyle isn't fun......Now I mean I can prob get behind bein able put together diff types for diff usages like 1 for bein able collect more materials if I wanna spend hrs gathering and hunting and maybe 1 for combat and hell even 1 if I wanna mix and match for a raid/survival type thing then yea then I could c it bein alil more enjoyable
