Far cry 4 Not starting - but fixed now

ok so it seems far cry 4 has some kind of bad patch paths or something.

I got it working after I deleted the 856 from the HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2006260900-2365457862-1062495521-1000\Software\Ubisoft\FarCry4\856
this was under the registry editor.

this is the first time I have ever had to do this with a game.

The files all look funny in the far cry 4.

And you will see far cry 4 is the only game on uplay that will not have properties.

This video will not show what I did to fix it but to show the ubisoft devs how odd the paths are vs other far cry games.

This is a KNOWN issue with the STEAM VERSION OF FAR CRY 4 it started in late march 2019
toward the end of march 2019 Steam released a patch for far cry 4 ever since that patch if you open the far cry 4 map edit program it breaks your game

the fix has been posted in the troubleshooting tips section over on the steam forums for over a year

thr Uplay only version DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM

i own both a steam copy that i bought back on NOVEMBER 18th 2014 .. the night far cry 4 shipped

in early 2019 Uplay had a sale on far cry 4 gold .. so i picked up a uplay only copy of the game so i no longer needed steams useless drm TO PLAY MY GAME .. JUST UPLAY

UPLAY ONLY USERS DID NOT GET THAT WEIRD PATCH STEAM PUSHED IN LATE MARCH 2019

(what was it for ? no one knows ... as the final patch for the game was made in 2015 ,,current version 1.10.0 came out in april of 2015 )

somehow steam has a bad version of the far cry map editor now , it used to work fine with my steam copy up until march 2019

my uplay only copy works fine to load both the game and map editor

if i load my steam copy and fire up the editor on that other PC that has the Steam version of far cry 4 on it ..the game will never load again , until i edit out that bad reg entry that STEAM keeps creating..and yes reopening the map edit program will break the game again ..

i personally have made ubisoft support reps aware of the issue multiple times , i guess they can not fix the files that STEAM has on their servers ..so to be clear ..its a KNOWN STEAM issue
and again i personally posted the link to get the fix on the steam forums in early April of 2019 , when the fix was discovered
as well as have multiple times posted about the issue on the steam user far cry 4 forums and assisted other users many many many times on the steam forums since then

dunno what else to tell ya , i have the link to the fix in a PINNED TOPIC over on the steam forums ..its been there for over a year

if you do not believe i posted about the problem here on the ubi forums , to let support know about the problem a year ago ... give me a sec i'll find you the exact post

here is the exact post when support said they would look into it ..
    https://forums.ubisoft.com/showthrea...1#post14285917

i think its steam that needs to fix its issue since steam changes so much of the game to sell it from their store .. they change not only the install path's but also go as far as changing the save file folder number ..to lock you into only buying any DLC from steam so they get their 30% cut of the sale of any DLC you buy

with the steam version of the game, it saves your game to

    C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 856

the Uplay only version they go in
    C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 420

and steam does this on many many Ubisoft Uplay titles

    like far cry 5

    PC (Uplay) C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\<Unique ID>\1803

    PC (Steam) C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\<Unique ID>\4311

    far cry primal

For the Steam version of the base Primal game they go in
    C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 2029

the Uplay only version they go in
    C:\ Program files X86 \ Ubisoft \ Ubisoft game launcher \savegames \ *a folder with a long series
of letters and numbers Varies from system to system* \ 2010

and even the assassins creed titles are the same ..steam changes too much stuff

so yes i think steam needs to fix the files they distribute ..but they seem to ignore the issue , and just want your cash ..

best advise .. if the map edit program is of value to you .. buy a uplay only copy of far cry 4 gold the next time its on sale direct from Uplay like i did .. i think my gold copy from uplay was only like 18 bucks on sale .. and that 18 bucks was well spent as now i do not have to load extra DRM to enjoy my game .. and my map editor works as does my game works perfectly ..and always has

oh and i never ever will buy any Ubisoft game on steam again ..you can get uplay only versions on sale more often at many other official Ubi partner sites always cheaper then what steam charges

plus you get less hassle with added DRM .. since all ubi developed games , use Uplay ..that's it .. and i do not mind Uplay at all
