How good is Far Cry 5 compared to the other Far Cry games?

I have played Far Cry 2-4. From those I enjoyed Far Cry 3 the most, thought it had an interesting story (the voiced MC helped) + the island setting was awesome.

Far Cry 2 would be my second favourite, it had some annoying elements like respawning checkpoints but the setting and atmosphere were fantastic.

Far Cry 4 was fun but kind of forgettable. Story wise I didn't really care about anything (Pagan was interesting though), MC was lame and the setting wasn't as appealing to me. It felt too much like a rehash of Far Cry 3 as well

Far Cry 5 is pretty much a step backwards from Far Cry 3 and 4. There is less interaction, unique missions, attention to detail, and gameplay overall gets very repetitive. You're better off either sticking with Far Cry 2, 3 and 4 or wait for a possible Far Cry 6 announcement on July 19th.

FC5 is the best from series. More detailed environment, awesome graphics.

To me, FC5 story is the worst of the series. I personally think the gameplay of FC5 is the best of the series, especially when you add in full Co-op play. Between the companions, graphics, gun handling, and even vehicles to me, it is the best FC game in play.....just the story want to make me puke. Luckily you can skip 99% of the story cutscenes with escape key, which is the only reason I can keep playing the game with my son.

There a lot of hand holding in the game just like in AC with a forest of icons, "tagging" and all that stuff. Thankfully it can all be disabled - and THATS the way I find I really enjoy the game because then it becomes a fun challenge vs a forest of HUD icons telling you where to go all the time.

Also a pity it does not have decapitation and dismemberment.

Far Cry 5 is not as good as FC 4, and it doesn’t hold a candle to FC 3.

The story in Far Cry 5 is annoying as all hell with it’s endless preaching about the religious bull crap. Its one of those games where if you did not hate the cult before the game started you will 1/4th of the way through.

The lack of crafting is another problem, FC 3 and 4 had a lot more guns to choose from, and a better way to unlock new skills.

If you can find Far Cry 5 for $15 and under go for it but story, character, and gameplay is not nearly as good as Far Cry 3 or 4.

    FC4 - Best missions
FC3 - Best open world and setting
    FC2 - Best atmosphere

Those are my top three with FC4 just shading it.

Next would be FC1 and New Dawn - equally. Really liked both.

Followed by FC5. Good in parts but is distinctively spoilt by a number of negative issues.

Primal comes last. Decent for a period but then gets dull due to weapon restrictions. Before long you'll be craving for a gun. To use on yourself!
