I was playing last night testing different snipers, and since the penetration stat was removed from gunsmith I decided to test.
The Zaslava's description reads "highest penetration in class", along with its perk to ignore enemy armour. Truth be told it goes through the armoured soldiers body armour no problem, but with the exception of boxes, Windows and (some) sheets of metal, that's where it's penetration stops.
You would think it being the future setting and the advanced technology present in the game, that a sniper that ignored enemy armour and had the highest penetration, would be able to clip through walls like how in reality, most ammunition types above 45acp/10mm can pass through. If the game were to stick to it's semi realistic tone, then sniper rifles should be able to shoot through walls WITHOUT the aid of the sharpshooter technique ammo.
I went asking on one of the breakpoint discord servers about their experience with bullet penetration, and the responses were that some heavy snipers could shoot through walls but only on some sheet-thin type walls. They also added that if if a sniper was dmr glitched, the bullets would then go through others.
Of course giving every sniper in the game this wall penetrating ability would be over-the-top and would potentially make situations too easy; I would suggest allowing the zaslava (as it has the highest penetration) and the snipers known for taking a larger caliber (eg the HTI and Tac50 with their .50 BMG cartridges) to be able to pierce walls but only after a player has held their breath for four seconds down the scope. Having the time at four seconds both gives time for the player to line up their shot, and prevents someone from just wiping out a base purely through wallbangs while being sat at a vantage point and not being there long enough to be pushed and forced to relocate. Having four seconds waiting time could also encourage coordinated teams to launch better synchronised attacks, being able to take out enemies that are unawares or hiding within buildings.
Just a suggestion I thought of and would be happy if you included a better penetration feature in the future.
Yet, in this weird world, .50 BMG is called .338 if I recall. In this world 9mm ammo cap is lower than 556 because ... weight of wait what?
And about penetration, I would love to see game encouraging more the body shots than headshots. I would love to see crippled or bleeding (incapacitated) enemy crawling to next cover of asking for help. Somehow it's weird to see those wolfs helmet, launch to Earth's orbit from a 9mm round of a sidearm ...
