Why uPlay still Sucks in 2020

Back in 2016, I've created a thread explaining why uPlay sucked. In the meantime, uPlay really did a good job but there are still problems that need to be adressed.

    • uPlay starts the game after updating. Why? I just wanted to update the game. Why do you launch it? Stop!
    • uPlay update process reqires too much effort. Steam, Origin, Epic... They all update right wne you start the launcher. But uPlay? No! You have to click Update, and then you have to click update again, and then you have to accept the agreement and then you can update. What the hell?
    • uPlay does not recognize games right away. I mean OK, Origin can not do that as well but Steam does! If there are files and the ACF file, the game is on your Steam list on a new PC no matter what. But for uPlay? You have to "Locate the game"... This is so 2016...
    • 2FA at every login. Come on. I do not want to activate it. Why do I have to see it every time I launch it?

And the last thing: Please stop using vBulletin and switch to XenForo.

    Hey,

1 &.2) Automatic updates should happen for recently played games (if you have the setting enabled) but thanks for the suggestion about optional game launch following a manual update!

3.) Thanks for the suggestion, but since you are given the option to install games anywhere you want without first creating a "library" designation somewhere, this feature may not be possible or desirable.

4.) You should be able to tick the remember me option and not be prompted for a 2FA code when using the same system, if you are being asked, something is going wrong somewhere. Send us your logs so we can try to identify where.

I'm also looking forward to and hoping for a forum update!

    Its terrible

Yet another company sticking with old concepts and tech debt, forcing the users to create yet another account to play games that are not even multiplayer and claiming that it provides "features" somehow unavailable if they used SSO from the platform the user is on.

It is mainly a marketing function. They want to be able to engage in identity trading, selling, and marketing. Right now the average value of an email address or anchor piece of data is approx $1.00 per month - over 12 months that is more than buying UNO, which is a horrendous tragedy of multiple logins and accounts to play a silly card game.

UBI Soft. give my child money back, either make money off info OR sell the game - doing both is just awful.

    Boycot

Seven years ago I had the misfortune to purchase rocksmith for like $80 to play on my vacation. It worked for one play then the next time I went to launch it my uplay account was locked and support took weeks to reply and they were not helpful. According to steam my total time played on this game is 10 minutes. The game was unreturnable for some reason.

I never bought another ubi game since and never will, your copy protection scheme is stupid and drives customers away.

    Just my experience

Ubisoft still sucks in 2021 too and itll continue to get worse. The latest glimpse of suck is AC Valhalla where they are anal as fk about forcing you to be signed in and connected to their malware-infested servers the entire time. They even force your saves onto their cloud rather than keeping it on the local HD - at least that's my experience on console. I've had saves vanish, costing easily 20 hours of play time, in-game currency stolen along with the items, and also loot from opal that i had farmed. Note that i have never used mods and this was all stuff purchased honestly.

This company deserves to be hacked into oblivion and to have all their IP pirated.

I can just drop whats frustrating me here.

For whatever reason this launcher keeps showing me a ton of UAC prompts, guess it happens with every little update.
And it doesn't respect denial either, if you don't grant access its going to ask about 4 times before giving up.
Then it proceeds to work fine so why bother me with those prompts?

I'd like to add that my desktop shortcuts that Ubisoft Connect don't work. I bought and downloaded games from the UC client. I can launch those games fine from the client. But when I go to launch the game from the desktop icon that the client created I get a prompt window instructing me to input a game code. A game code that was not given to me because I bought and downloaded the game from the client. There is no "show key" in the game details like with other games that I had to activate with a key.

    Hi usePowerTools,

Thanks for bringing this up and specifically mentioning that it happens when you launch the game from the shortcut!

1.) Is this happening for all games or only some specific titles?
2.) Does this happen only with shortcuts you create during the installation process, or those created manually? (Right click game > 'Create desktop shortcut')

    Thanks.
