Hi, I was thinking of changing my username to something new. I usually have my usernames deal with a turtle in some way and this time, I decided I wanted my username to be "Squirtle". When I tried changing it, the systems told me that "Our filters detect the use of restricted words here." At first, I thought it was some kind of copyright thing, so I tried replacing the e with a 3, but that didn't work either.
Welcome to the forums! While this is the name of a video game character it has also been used in recent times to describe something very much not appropriate for all ages forums such as this one. I won't say what it currently means in today's slang terms because we ARE chatting on this all ages forum, but I can tell you that the term is not something we want associated with our player communities. The filters also detect restricted words that are hidden or disguised with other text, which is why replacing the e with a 3 did not work.
I'm afraid you will need to choose something else for your username.
In North America one of the meanings of this word is a derogatory term for a group of people.Originally Posted by Ohqwan Go to original post
Okay, this is legit bothering me now, I couldn't believe it, so I went on a search for any meaning of 'Squirtle' that would have been derogatory, other than some 18+ stuff slang, I haven't found a single thing. So if its so obscure... Does this mean you'll just be banning more and more seemingly innocent words, just cause some groups of people decide to use them for their own malicious ways? This is ridiculous.
quite an interesting issue.
from one hand, it's an innocent username
but from the other it's definitely deal with some 18+ slang, so...
well the developers and moderators might just try to manage and prevent any possible issues
like inappropriate language, copyright, etc.
it's a pity, of course. tht's my fav pokemon![]()
Hi everyone! I understand it can be annoying when a seemingly innocent word gets detected and blocked by our filter. Unfortunately, I'm not able to speculate as to why certain words may have been included in this system as it is an automatic process server-side. That being said, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at support.ubi.com! They may be able to provide the insight you're looking for and provide further assistance. Thanks!
