Tips for new players (May 2020)

As the game has changed a lot with the release of Warlords of New York, it seems a good idea to create an updated thread with tips for new players

    Reading material

Sticky thread on resources for new players

    News and announcements forum

    Patch notes and maintenance notices

    Official Discord

Unofficial Gear 2.0 stats - excellent reference on what items are available

    General Tips

    - Don't get attached to a particular gear item of weapon until you get to World Tier 5 (or Level 40 for WoNY) - it'll become obsolete quickly.
    - Check the tutorials tab if you accidentally skipped over a tutorial in the heat of battle
    - Hazard protection doesn't help against explosives - you need Explosive Resistance for that
    - You can replay missions by selecting them on the map and selecting the difficulty. You cannot replay side missions
    - You can increase the difficulty of a control point by completing an activity that is linked to it by a thin red line. Beating level 3 or 4 control points will give you blueprints for gear you can then craft.
    - Most missions have a hidden backpack trophy you can find
    - Complete the DZ recon missions for additional XP. You only have to find the entrance to the DZ and upload map data - no need to go in.
    - Commendations are in-game achievements. You need to claim commendations on the commendation tab to get the arm patch

    Combat Tips
    - When facing groups of enemies, look out for medics or enemies with a double-chevron icon. These enemies will buff or revive their friends, so taking them out first is a good idea
    - Most enemies have a weak spot. Hitting this will do more damage. You can tell you hit it when there's a bold yellow cross. On most enemies look for a red item.
    - For the Cleaner chungas, shoot the big tank on their back. Once you've done enough damage, they will take their mask off, making them more vulnerable to headshot damage.
    - For the Riker shield tanks, shoot the two tanks on their back. This will force them to drop their shield, making them much easier to finish off.
    - You can use "Call for backup" if you're having a hard time in a given fight. This will summon another player to help you out. Just remember to endorse them when prompted.

What tips do you have for brand new players? Bear in mind that some people may have bought the game bundled with WoNY, but have yet to play the NY content - so avoid spoilers.

For reference, the old thread should be considered out of date.

Use the minimap. (360 degrees of pure directional threat) You'll be pulling aggro from all directions so this is a heads up to plan ahead.

    Seasons

Seasons are included for all owners of the Warlords of New York expansion. Seasons are a series of activities including a manhunt, leagues and global events spread over 12 weeks. Players earn rewards from the top (free) reward track as their season level increases.

    Season Pass

The optional Season Pass unlocks a "premium reward" track and an additional project. The pass for Season One was included free with the Warlords of New York expansion. The pass for Season Two onward costs 1000 premium credits. You can preview the included rewards on this track in-game - highlighted in yellow:

    Reset Control Points for Manhunts

For the manhunt targets, you may need to retake specific Control Points that you already control. From your map, select "Global Settings" to bring this screen up:

The "Reset Control Points" option will switch all Control Points to enemy control, allowing you to fight for them again. This will only reset the control points on the current map - i.e. NY or DC, not both (as of August 2020). You will need to "Confirm Settings" to apply the reset.
