I agree mate. I'm not looking to earn cash fast, or know the best weapons etc. just wondered if it was like FC 4 where you can just hunt, skin and improve your gear, without the main story / missions forcing you into specific areas or actions. Eventually in FC 4, you hit the Kyrat fashion week missions, but even those don't really increase any attention you get from the Royal Army. In fact, it seems like FC 4 didn't have a reputation mechanic, least wise I didn't notice one.
Even the bonus cash thing in FC 5, though useful to know, isn't crucial to me, coz it's the actual hunting and fishing that interests me initially. It's probably an odd approach, but it served me very well in FC 4 and the early hunting was actually quite dangerous and gave a real buzz to just exploring Kyrat.
In fact, I found the amount of animal attacks in FC 4 to be one of the best elements of it, including those damned Eagles! There were a number of times where I was defending myself against Royal Army guys and got attacked by a lion or somesuch from behind! Other times, later on, I'd more thoroughly scout the area, and quite often the guards would get attacked by wildlife, saving my bullets. On one occasion I saw two Bears fighting and they got too near some Yaks. One of the Yaks charged a Bear, finishing it off, and the other Bear ran away! That's the sort of thing that I'm hoping to maybe see in FC 5, minus the Yaks of course.

Far Cry 5 is different. You earn perk points by progressing through the story, exploring the world, completing challenges and leveling up in Far Cry Arcade. When you are exploring Hope County, it's always good to complete Prepper Stashes; completing Prepper Stashes will not affect story progression. Challenges are pretty straightforward such as 'Kill enemies with any ____', whether that's handguns, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, snipers, etc. Far Cry Arcade is where you play user made maps, whether you are playing Solo & Co-op or Multiplayer. When you complete these matches, you will level up and the perk points you earn will transfer to single player. The perks you unlock in single player will transfer over to multiplayer. You don't craft holsters, wallets, rucksacks/loot bags, syringe kits, ammo pouches/bags and quivers anymore. They are now perks and you would have to spend perk points to unlock them. Skinning animals in Far Cry 5 is mostly for profit and missions objectives. Throwables such as Molotovs and dynamites and consumables such as homeopathics are the only things that are craftable in Far Cry 5; homeopathics is the Far Cry 5 equivalent to syringes you can craft in Far Cry 3 & 4. You can't craft medkits in Far Cry 5, so you have to find or buy them. With the lack of wallet upgrades, you are no longer restricted to how much money you can carry in Far Cry 5.

Far Cry New Dawn may be a direct sequel spin-off to Far Cry 5, but there are many game mechanics that functions very differently.

As you said previously, there's no substitute for just jumping in and getting on with what you find, as you find it. Also, I'm not one to research a game to try and max weapons, abilities etc. However, I've played quite a few games where after a playthrough, I've thought, "I wish I'd known about that thing from the get go" or "I wished I'd known that grinding those elements early game is pointless due to...".
Mostly I'm talking about 'grinding' games but almost all games have elements of those things. From what you write, seems like FC 5 is quite a different game from FC 4, which is great to know because had I gone in expecting to predominantly fish and hunt like in 4, I would have been disappointed, so you've saved me that, thanx.
Interesting that they call the syringes 'homeopathics' , too much to assume that you only need a smidgeon of resources to craft them I suppose. Interesting point about Homeopathy, it was invented in 1796 by Samuel Hahnemann. Of course, in those days they used to test their creations on themselves and in a tragic accident, he died of an underdose.
Thanx for all your great info, time and considerations. I think I now know enough to just jump on in and enjoy it.
All the best. Take care and stay safe mate.

Hi! Sorry, if I didn't get your point right/spoilered too much. I read your posts and thought, hm, an expierienced player ... Your questions seemed very detailed to me, too.

    Thanx rabe

No worries rabe. The detailed questions are partly a function of my personality, as I do research games before buying (too many disappointments) largely through gameplay vids and forums, which is always fraught with potential spoilers. I think I now know that FC 5 is different enough from FC 4 in it's fishing/hunting mechanic, that attempting to just do those to progress isn't possible, which has saved me a disappointment there. It may not even be feasible, but I'm perverse enough to probably give it a go anyway, maybe with the attitude of attempting to have a holiday in a war zone.
