I have some doubts.
I saw that there is already an Eivor's assassin's creed wiki page.
I am italian and this name sounds viril for me,but then I saw its etimology and it's written only it is a female name. There aren't male exceptions. This is worrying.
Darby mcDevitt said that we will discover why they are both canon only when the game will be released.
I hope that he didn't write this think only to make a so big happiness in the players so that they preorder soon the game, giving a lot of money to ubisoft, but then they will say:"There is a canon story represented in the book, but in the game there aren't wrong or right choices(to but both the most expensive edition of the game and the canon novel)."
I'm sorry if my conspiracy theories were false, but all this situation it's strange.I hope that ubisoft will give more informations before the game's release and won't make fun of the players.
That's curious. The figurine from the collector's edition also represents Eivor as a female, so basically we've got more of a ,,Kassandra situation" than two canon protagonists.Originally Posted by VestigialLlama4 Go to original post
No it was already stated that both are canon and that they found some way that this works with the lore. But nobody knows what this will be.Originally Posted by nirvanner11 Go to original post
I've done more searches and there is no one male on the face of the earth that is called Eivor.I'm very worried.I continue to say that I hope ubisoft will give more informations about the protagonist very soon and I also want to hear the opinion of the other community members.
Drop the 'E', & you get Ivor, which I thought was the Welsh name for John, so I thought do a wicki search for Ivor & see if there's any origin, & it says,
"Ivor is an English masculine given name derived from Old Norse Ívarr (modern Scandinavian Ivar). The Old Norse name was also adopted in Gaelic-speaking Ireland and Scotland, in the spelling Ímar (modern Iomhar). It was also adopted in Wales in the spelling Ifor. It is derived from the Old Norse elements yŕ (yew, bow) and herr (warrior, army): hence, "archer, bow warrior."
So I don't know if it helps, but many names have variant spellings. If you just take the pronunciation, is it not the same? I've got a cousin called Lynne. I know another couple of same name, they spell it differently. I know this bothers some people, but I'm not that concerned, my female Viking will be 'Ivor the bow warrior'!
EDIT: Even if she doesn't actually get a bow![]()
Guys I am really confused. We know that Animus uses the DNA sample to witness the life of the ancestor. In Odyssey I can understand the reason having 2 characters, the sample was really, really old. But now, we are going to 8th-10th Century, I find it difficult to understand the reason behind another character choice. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem having a female character, my only concern is that they ruined the animus use, just to satisfy all customers.
They said this will be addressed in the game.Originally Posted by assass_gr7 Go to original post
They could be two distinctly separate people with the same name. This is what I’m leaning towards at this point.Originally Posted by assass_gr7 Go to original post
It could be that the whole past experience is some crazy Precursor simulation, and not a re-living of the past, where an artificial protagonist of her choosing is created for Layla to control. In this case, Layla would be the only true canon protagonist of the game. So, maybe we play as Layla, who has created either the male or female version of Eivor to be her vessel.
I’ve been doing quite a bit of thinking about this.
I was wondering why they haven't gone with Ivor/Ivar or some variant of that... But Eivor is not the female variant of Ivor, and they have two distinctly different pronunciations (A and E sounds, respectively). So I'm fairly curious about what the in-game explanation is.Originally Posted by thegardener25 Go to original post
