Remember the Essence
For the devs:
I've been an avid Ghost Recon fan since the start. I still find the originals up to Ghost Recon: Island Thunder and so on have a much more realistic approach than even some of today's entries in the franchise. While I understand that these things need to adapt and move forward, I think Breakpoint goes too far off of the essence of what makes Tom Clancy games what they need to be.
Tom Clancy's writings and endorsed games have always been based on current geopolitical environments being blown up into a drastic, but fathomable future. Wildlands was an incredible success in my eyes. It was properly adapted to modern wants out of a large scale game, while also holding a believable story. The tactics and weaponry were accurate. The Advanced Suppressor skill brought even more realism to the game since suppressors don't change those aspects of a firearm. The customization was extreme and made the replay ability of Wildlands a constant treat. I, myself, have replayed the entire campaign upwards of 7 times. From a Vietnam vet using the M-16 given from the Predator mission with no suppressors and stock iron sights to modern day spec ops, to civilian resistance.
The fact that the customization was reduced by half, easily, for Breakpoint was a disappointing surprise. The weapon calibers indicated on the firearms are also wildly inaccurate. The latter could've easily been addressed with a google search.
The lack of AI teammates doesn't really bother me in Breakpoint because the teammates kind of conflict with the idea of the story. Still having sync shot drones on top of that, although limited, does give back a lot of the benefits of having the AI teammates.
That brings me to the story...Breakpoint should be a lessons learned as far as releasing a game without a full story available. Taking away rewards for faction missions reduces the incentive to continuously play the rotating green dots while we wait for something new. For the next story, dial back the Hollywood and drama of the characters and focus more on the overall story. Breakpoint didn't feel like a Tom Clancy game. Breakpoint feels more like a drama between individual characters rather than a game that heavily involves you in a large story. The Division did this properly, Wildlands did this properly. I never thought that this phrase would be so applicable nor that I'd be able to use it in a serious way, but KEEP. IT. REAL. You don't need to jump into that extreme of a futuristic environment to make an exceptional experience. If you READ Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six, you'll find yourself more engaged and amazed at that story than you will reviewing the story of Breakpoint.
When I see Wildlands, The Division, FarCry even...I know Ubisoft is equipped to deliver. I ask that you please pause, zoom out, and deliver a game that lives up to the franchise.
