They really kill immersion for me. Going full stealth is never an option if there are drones in a camp...at some point you will have to deal with the drone(s)...loudly.
Despite the bugs, I really enjoy the game. But I cringe every time I hear that drone hum coming from the direction of a camp I'm headed to.
Does anyone know if Ubisoft has ever mentioned making drones optional in the future?
I did consider that. But I think it could work if there were only Behemoths/Blyths guarding the towers. They could do away with the smaller, annoying drones in camps (allowing us to play stealthy), keep Behemoths as mini-bosses, and still keep the existing story arc intact.Originally Posted by gunbladelad Go to original post
A part of me died when we all realized how much of this spongy, autonomous tech would be included in the game along with the tank-like, mini-gun wielding soldiers. In fact, it's a big reason I didn't buy it especially after playing the alpha/betas.
....but @gunbladedad has a point. If they were to get rid of all the things I don't like about GRB, there probably wouldn't be a game left to play.![]()
There have been some really good suggestions on how to adjust the drones in the game so they fit the Ghost Recon style of game, but so far there has been no word from Ubisoft if they've considered some of these suggestions.
Personally, the only drones I really don't like are the flying drones. These drones cause an instant alert state when they're destroyed. The only way to take them down quietly, is to use the Echelon class' Shock Pistol, but even that is a bit iffy. The Shock Pistol will take down flying drones with one hit most of the time, but when it doesn't, the drone becomes alerted and hunt you down. It's inconsistent at best. The Shock Pistol also has a lag problem at times. You line up your target, pull the trigger and 2 seconds later the projectile is fired. This obviously needs to be fixed.
If Ubisoft changed the flying drones to simply fall out of the sky, instead of exploding and alerting the enemies when you shoot them down, this would go a long way to improving stealth gameplay.
Yeah that's my main complaint: drones completely remove the stealth option. Even if you manage to take down a flyer with a well placed TAC50 shot with multiple drone talents, the explosion still alerts the entire camp. The ground drones, afaik are impossible to one-shot with any weapon, and even if you could, they also explode. Waiting to take them out last is near impossible because their patrol is often literally the whole camp. They're bound to find a body at some point.Originally Posted by Icetyger4 Go to original post
Story-wise, the small ones could be removed from the game and the main story could still be the same. Just have Behemoths guarding the towers and call it a day.
Not the same. "Special" human enemies can make missions a bit more challenging, but they can still be taken out with a headshot or melee kill (no melee kill on heavies but two quick headshots works).Originally Posted by Stenbern Go to original post
Drones simply have no stealth option. Even if a Murmur is taken out quickly, they still explode, alerting the camp.
The Shock Pistol completely shuts down ground drones (except the Behemoths) in one shot. They will remain disabled until you're discovered. If that happens, the ground drones magically spring to life again (wish I knew the logic behind this). If you try to destroy the ground drones while they are disabled, make sure you hit them hard enough to destroy them in one go. If they survive your initial attack, they'll reactivate and try to kill you.Originally Posted by Tizodd Go to original post
Some ground drones can be destroyed with one blast from the rocket launcher, but it's hard to tell which ones.
I think the Echelon class is the best class for taking down drones because of the Shock Pistol, but it still needs some tweaks to make it more effective.
