That's about the same timeframe the Devs had between SH3 and SH4, KF.....and that was with an existing game engine.Originally posted by krazyfrenchman:
From what I have heard, pre-development started around the time U-boat Missions was delayed, so at the end of January 2008. Which means that they will have a full 12 months plus more or less 1 or 2 months for tuning it up.
Whatever Ubisoft is saying, this new game will not have been coded from scratch. It will be some kind of hybrid clusterf***
I will certainly not be purchasing it at release...whatever era it's set in. There will be nothing but problems for the first 6 months.
I'll sit this one out.![]()
I think this is really funny!!!!
People seem to be lining up to announce that they wouldn't even consider a SH5 product on release; ......And yet you all know, in your "Heart of Hearts", that you would step on each other's faces, and then climb on top of the bodies to get a look at the first preview or demo when (and if) SH5 is released!!!!!
Come on people!!! .....Lighten up!!! The only legitimate criticism at the moment is that the projected release date is absurd!

The problem is, KL, they will meet the Q1 release date whether it's absurd or not.Come on people!!! .....Lighten up!!! The only legitimate criticism at the moment is that the projected release date is absurd!

Personally, having battled with SH3 and SH4, this time I'm going to wait at least 6 months, probably longer, after the release date before purchasing. I will eagerly read the posts here and at subsim though.![]()
I can't see how they can even have taken a decision yet. They must still be wading knee deep in criticisms for SH4, even after 1.5.
Why does a new sim have to go over new ground? What's wrong with revisiting the old ground, in a new way? We've discussed this in depth on numerous occasions, so I don't feel like repeating myself.
I don't think the developers of the last two iterations of Silent Hunter have got to grips with even the first iota of the nature of real submarine warfare. And as a result there is huge potential in making the thing more immersive and `real` long before we start worrying about any new direction.
Controversially, why not go to a HOT Cold War sim, `what if` style? After all, if it was a Cold War subsim, THERE WOULD NEVER BE AN OPPORTUNITY TO FIRE A TORPEDO. Generation-wise it was the only time `old` and `new` types of subs were in the water at the same time, and the GUPPY program gives a huge potential for upgrades, even growth to nuclear boats. That would satisfy that sad career path medal gatherers who see victory in being in possession of more than the next simmer, and they need something to have `more` of when tonnage won't even be a factor. Not Ever. No convoys after WW11...
I'm happy that I invested in SH3 and SH4, but in both cases I knew what was coming:

Having done all that for the last two games in the SH series, my personal decision is not to do that next time.
I will wait and see exactly what the game turns out to be, and then I'll wait for at least six months before purchasing it, while keeping up with it here and at subsim.
