This right here is what's wrong with NPC damage.

This was an Elite Patrol in the open world on CHALLENGING. Not even heroic. Not even heavies. These are yellow bar elites. And yes, before anyone says "git gud scrub", or "don't get hit nub", this was a test. I wanted to see how much I was actually being hit for. No Glass Canon, btw.

When you look at the death report, these are throwers(that's grenades, some of those most dangerous attacks in the game), but hitting for bullet damage. Think about the MOST armor you can possibly get. 2million 3 million? What good is that when enemy NPCs are shooting for 5-600k per bullet?

I did another test, this time challenging in a mission with purple bar enemies. Again, 400-500k PER HIT. And this is just bullet damage. It doesn't even consider firebombs, grenades, or the insane melee attacks.

What, exactly, is the point of even having armor when NPCs are hitting this hard? I'll tell you: There is no point.

    Massive, please unf**k your game.

There is not much point in armor if you are running solo at the moment.

Yeah, the damage is definitely over the top. Armor is pretty much useless. All the high tech agents have access to and a t-shirt wearing thug has better armor than you do.

Why would it matter if I was solo or in a group. That's still too much damage for NPCs to be hitting for.

Being able to revive a teammate is not an excuse for how much output these NPCs are doing.

Being able to CC them likewise isn't a good solution. If the only viable way to mitigate an enemy is to completely shut them down(by killing or CC), then that NPC is broken.

Again, this isn't heroic. This isn't Legendary. This is freaking CHALLENGING, the third tier down from the top. What possible explanation or game logic is there for enemies doing this much damage at the lowest scaling(solo) not even on the highest difficulty?

I always thought those totals were multiplicative or I presume they are.

Ok, lets disregard the final number then. That's still 2-4k PER HIT.

Maybe the SOTG should explain in detail the kill report.

    They are.

You cant tell what each NPC is doing damage wise per shot.

You cant compare the damage a player does with the damage an enemy does. Theirs has to be much higher than ours to compensate for the lack of AI. Clearly the enemies still hit incredibly hard, yet we run missions solo, without dieing, killing over 100 npcs and dealing over 500 million damage in the process, so you cant really say the NPC's are OP. Its never going to be designed so that we can go toe to toe with them.

Now, certain mechanics of the game, uber healing, almost instant revival, explosion spam and the fires of hell, can be a little excessive, and scaling is a problem for sure, just a little too much at times, but by and large, we are still completing things up to heroic level on a regular basis.

No, but you can compare their damage in terms of TTK and Agent survivability. When a single purple NPC can kill you in 2-3 seconds on the third-down-from the top difficulty in the game, there's something wrong. Because we have to consider that encounters often contain 2-4 enemies, sometimes with elites and heavies.

The point being that damage output from enemies is WAY off, however stupid or not the AI is.

Yes, but the manner in which we do so is by breaking the game and using exploits, as the recent wave of suspensions would attest to. What part of that seems like good game design to you? What part of driving players to resort to those measures in order to progress is reasonable?
