[PC]ALT+ENTER causes disconnect from current game. | Forums

One of the things that keeps me playing this game is the fact that I can sit in queue/lobby in Windowed mode and do other stuff while waiting, then when the match starts I quickly switch to fullscreen by doing the windows shortcut ALT+ENTER.
This has worked flawlessly since release up until maybe a month ago.
Now 1/4 times I do this at the start of a match I get instantly kicked from the just started match.
I'm moved to the Multiplayer main menu without any error or "leave penalties" and can start over queuing again.
Why does this happen suddenly?

I run the game in borderless windowed, and ALT+Enter to browse the web while waiting for matchmaking/loading. When the game gets to the initial cutscene of minis doing something, I ALT+Enter to maximize the window again, and I'm exited out of the match back to the base multiplayer screen. This seems to happen with any game mode. I've been ALT+Enter-ing for years with this game, the exit behavior only happened as of the most recent patch.

Pollux_dk - Please do not bump threads, whether your own or someone else's. We will reply to your thread as soon as we are able. I have removed your second post as a result. That said, I am sorry to hear that using the ALT+ENTER shortcut causes this issue. Can you clarify for me if by "do other stuff while waiting" you mean in-game, or in another program / window? If another window, have you tried using ALT+TAB to return to For Honor first, and then ALT+ENTER for fullscreen? Have you tried performing our basic PC troubleshooting as a precaution?

TheArraigner - I merged your thread with this one, as it seems you are both discussing similar issues. You've mentioned that this issue with ALT+ENTER seems to have started since the last patch - have you performed any troubleshooting to try and address this, such as our basic PC troubleshooting?

Sorry for bumping.
I do other things in other windows/apps yes, and I always mark the for honor window before I hit the ALT-ENTER otherwise it won't register at all (windows thing).
I'll try ALT-TAB instead and get back with a result

Let me know whether using ALT+TAB to cycle back to the fullscreen window works better for you than ALT+ENTER.

I need to be using ALT+ENTER since the window needs to be maximised.
What I'm testing if whether or not it changes anything if I use ALT+TAB to bring the window i focus instead of me just using my mouse to click the white window bar before using the ALT+ENTER.

I understand your arrangement a bit better looking at the image - thanks Pollux_dk.

What I would like to recommend testing, using ALT+TAB, is having the game window in the background in fullscreen, and then your other windows fullscreen. Cycle through using ALT+TAB. Does the game still crash / cause you to disconnect?

Are you using it in such a small window so that you can see when the queue is up?

Yes I'm using the small window for everything but "playing" the game queue, select char, loading etc.

I also would like to quickly ask again (as you may have missed this in my original reply) whether you completed our basic PC troubleshooting, in particular disabling background and start-up applications that may interfere?

Thanks for merging mine in, I apologize for missing Pollux's original post.

Checked for the background apps, the only things running are the game, steam, and uPlay. Everything in the basic troubleshooting is also fine (the files, GPU drivers)

It hasn't happened to me yet today, but I've gotten more careful about when ALT+ENTER-ing, trying to do it before the opening dominion cutscene, or after you gain control of your hero.

EDIT: As soon as I post this of course it happens. This time, I ALT+ENTERed less than a second after the opening cutscene was done, and it booted out of the game like we originally mentioned.

EDIT #2: I guess I shouldn't have posted, it happened the next two lobbies after I did. The second time was about 20-30 seconds into the "ready for battle" faceoff screen, before the "rrargh" that precedes the dominion cutscene.
