Some thoughts on the Splinter Cell missions (SPOILERS)

My take on the Splinter Cell missions so far.

    Hollie Mackenzie:
doable as long as you don't disturb the flying drones, because they are impossible to kill on what used to be Extreme. Not that you have time to worry about that because they have a 2 shot you're dead policy.

    Wim van D.yke:
missions 1 and 2 are doable, but the 3rd is awful. Here he says that as soon as he will do his thing on the computer an alarm will go off... meanwhilst he does the thing already and the alarm goes off, and while he's still explaining the first enemies spawn and race towards you. You have NO preparation time. You have to hide in a corner and wait until you get shot dead every ******g time because they throw so many enemies at you so fast that it's impossible to do anything here. No places to hide, enemies shoot right through your cover. Awful. Die and reload and it's on, immediately, no rethinking, the first enemies spawn already!
Exit the game & reload? Well, Wim van D.yke will run towards where he will go do his computer thing the moment you reload. Only way out here is to shoot him.

So then I thought I'll use a gunship helicopter. Yep. But for that the game cheats. They throw in a car, some foot folk, a helicopter and then a drone which only needs 4 shots to kill my helicopter. I am still playing on Rookie after the Stephanie Burgess mishap below. Doesn't matter here either, I'm dead.

    Stephannie Burgess:
here it starts weird, she doesn't want to be seen with you, we have to meet outside of town where she will explain what I must do... after which we both get into a car and drive there while she explains to me what I should do. Errr.??
But okay, having done that mission (which is quite easy), again she asks to meet.

At the meet point she's not coming, but 5 Wolves are plus a helicopter with 2 Wolves.
I tried everything, shoot the helicopter - I get killed by the Wolves on the ground. Shoot the Wolves on the ground - I get killed by the helicopter or by the Wolves on the ground. Drop down and run away - Wolves will spawn right in my path and kill me. And each time I get killed and reload, it's on immediately, the helicopter is already shooting at me the moment I load in.

The only way temporarily out here is to exit the game, or exit to menu and reload. But watch out because as soon as you restart the game, it's game on again!

On the reload the game respawns me a little downhill but still on alert, and the Wolves know where I am and will kill me quickly. The game reloads and respawns me at the place where I was were earlier from where there is no escape. And no fast travel so I'm screwed. I switched from what used to be Extreme to Rookie difficulty and it doesn't matter. Fight or leave the area it says, but there's no leaving the area because I will be killed every f-ing time. Can't run down a hill and put a syringe in at the same time. Stop to do the syringe and I'm dead.

I finally got lucky when I hit the pilot of the helicopter with a stray shot from my ASR. Then it was easy. But really, it shouldn't be this impossibly difficult where the game frustrates the living daylights out of me. Sorta GTA Vice City with "Lance Vance must survive" and him dying because of outliers over and over.

    The General:
this is fun. Sure, watch out for the lasers and all, but other than that fun.
Until you get out of his office and you're hunted by a ground drone that can magically warp itself up to the floor you're on. This game cheats like a mother. One moment the drone was on the other side of the room, the next it appeared magically behind me and shot me. I'm in a place only reached by ladders. Thanks though for putting me outside the General's office again when I respawn.

    Karel Sekulic:
the Karel Struycken mission is also fun. Good old fashioned Ghost Recon stealth, but for that 4 of my C4 went missing again and didn't detonate, so now I had to kill everyone to then kill the last generators with grenades. I managed that one above Rookie. Well, what used to be Extreme.

    Frustration:
I am not coming back to the ones I can't finish. When they cannot be finished on easy, well f-it. Whomever play-tested this should be made to play this game from start to finish on Elite and for every one of his deaths he should get an electric shock. James Bond style. Upping the electricity every time.

Edit: lol, forum software filters the name of one of the mission givers because it's a body that holds back water, but also slang for a lesbian. There, fixed that I hope.

I totally agree with you on these points of frustration. I enjoy this game so much, but not the dying every 15 seconds part, and wait for the game to reload, wash, rinse, repeat...

I hope Ubisoft fixes this before I lose interest and give up.

The Van Dyk and Burgess missions are brutal on higher difficulty. Not great design for a tactical game when you're forced into conflict and have to fight Rambo style.

The buff that reduces injuries by 50% and rations that reduce damage are essential. Also when using panther the disappear class skill gives you a few seconds of invisibility where you can mow down enemies bunched together.

Finally hit the drone spray as soon as drones come out to give you cover from them.

Again, some aspects of the missions are great but some aspects aren't and dont fit with GR.
