Feedback: Did the Update Make The Game Worse?

Personally, I think so. Let me lay out why.

I played it yesterday after the new update. The Ghost Mode is too hardcore, and completely erases the core gameplay established in Wildlands, flawed, but fun with a group. Unless you mess around in menus forever to "copy" that experience, which is tedious.

The new Sam Fisher stuff is total garbage. Go to a place, don't even bother with clearing it, go inside a building, cutscene, come outside, every enemy attacks, but it is just some really stupid AI running up to die really fast, not even a tactical thought in their virtual heads, then you hop into a vehicle for a *groan* "driving sequence," where Sam drives really slow and you operate a super slow turret trying to shoot things with any amount of accuracy (occasionally blowing yourself up when another vehicle gets too close). Then the first mission is finally over and you're glad you didn't buy that stupid pass.

So a few things wrong in my experience yesterday.

Ghost mode is not fun, especially alone, but I can't imagine it being fun unless you are super hardcore, which is fine, and I might graduate to that eventually, but there is nothing in between. You either get the terrible, original looter shooter, or you get the no mini map, no enemy tag, "Why do I even have this drone?" option.

However, you can choose to make a "custom experience." Which is mostly just fiddling with menus, going back to the game to see if you like that, repeat until you have some Frankenstein monster of an acceptable experience. It feels like the folks at Ubisoft just threw their hands up and said, "We don't feel like figuring out a balance, you do it." It's tedious, and I can't imagine anyone wanting to boot up the game for the first time and figuring it out before actually starting to play.

Enemy AI, still super stupid. Making bullets hurt more won't change that. It's noticeable and boring, also kinda sad. I feel bad for killing these people, they can barely hold their own. Is that supposed to make me feel LIKE A GHOST!? It makes me feel like a mass murderer of morons.

The camera is still too close. It feels like I'm sneaking up for a cuddle with my buddy. Who cares about being able to see anything, I'm just trying to get warm with my big ole ghost bud. It's cold in these mountains.

Ultimately, I think this game is a write off for me. The story wasn't great. It seemed like it would be... There aren't any systems to keep me coming back. It's just more, go kill these helpless people while overcoming terrible gameplay, terrible movement, and a story that you don't care about. Progression is off. I never feel threatened, so there is never a new tool that will help me change the tide of battle. Just a whole lot of meh. It really makes me sad too because Wildlands was a really repetitive, but still fun in a group. This isn't fun no matter what. No amount of patches will fix it either. Please just stop, and focus on making a better game in the future. Everyone will forget about how terrible this one is, if you just make a better game. Either that, or think about adding in some systems and better AI.

You know what would add some depth to this? Helping the faceless population with rebuilding their wartorn home. You know? Like the U.S. military actually tries to do... Get access to better tools as you improve the quality of life on the island. You can do so much more with that idea too. It actually would feel like you are progressing, not fighting an endless tide of nonsense... I mean terminators? Come on...

Well, all I can say is I love the new options. I have been playing in straight immersive mode I had already been playing with no tags and no enemy cloud for a while.

I have enjoyed this both solo and in co-op mode. My co-op buddy also love the new options.

I find it fascinating that you complain about the missing mini-map and tags and then follow up with 'I never feel threatened.'. Well yeah, if you are any good at the game, the mini map and tags are training wheels - so I'm not really sure what exactly you want.

I think may you just bought the wrong game. I can't figure out if you should be playing ARMA or Borderlands.

I agree with a lot of what youre saying but I actually really like ghost mode. Im not a super hardcore player, I just like immersive games and ghost mode is a big step towards that. You seem to be hung up on not marking enemies, and if you want to fiddle with the nightmare that is the list of hud settings go for that, but really its actually super fun to play without marks on people. You have to be focused, careful, and alert to succeed and that feels amazing. It takes some getting used to but it is 100% worth it. And also the drone is a really good info gathering tool without marks. The customizable difficulty has nothing to do with balance, it just lets players like me optimize our experience.

The camera is just personal preference. I like it the way it is because it makes me feel down to earth and with my ghost. Further away and it would be like watching drone footage of my ghost.

The story and AI are pretty bad though. Theyre going off into a weird fantasy land of forced gameplay that is counter to the entire rest of the game (forced behemoth fights, vehicle segments, stupid AI companions). The AI doesnt fight well, and it turns into a weird game of whack a mole if you get spotted.

Rebuilding the wartorn island sounds pretty awesome, I would love to see something like that. Unfortunately the game is too far along to go in that direction now but cross our fingers for next game.

Ah yes, I did play without the mini map and markers, but was spotted, kinda on purpose. Then it just turned into me gunning down a bunch of people who ran up a staircase... My point is, if you go loud, the AI should be able to form a basic strategy for routing you from a fortified position, not running up some stairs to join a pile of bodies. That's just unacceptable.

I agree, far too late to add that rebuilding stuff to Breakpoint. It would give it more life though. Especially when it shouldn't be a looter shooter. I wish that genre would disappear. I just never felt like I was building to anything. Just trying to kill the next guy to kill the guy after him, occasionally it was a woman, but one of them was in a helicopter or something...

AI is definitely my largest complaint though. If it was dynamic and produced a fun firefight almost every time, I wouldn't mind. It isn't though. I just remember the AI from Killzone 2, it was frightening and intelligent. Really pushed you out of cover and teamed up on you. If it was done in a FPS, it should be a basic requirement for a tactical shooter.
