I feel like since the expansion shotguns are back into 1.3 where they completely and utterly suck in every facet of the game. First, they carried the nerf from legacy into pvp and even wearing all red they totally suck. Second, in pve even hitting at 1.4 mil base damage with max chc and around 100 chd, it still takes like 7 or 8 shells to kill a heroic elite. Considering the lack of range, accuracy, fire rate, and ttk in high difficulty pve play, there is absolutely no point in using them.
I'm not saying they should destroy everything in 2 hits. I'm just saying they aren't viable any more. At least before the expansion you could still run them in pve and do well. Now, I'd rather pistol whip a boss than use a shotgun.
I've always liked using shotties in this game, I still do use them but they have lost so much of their hitting power. Sad really. Considering the amount of armour Heroic Elites rock you have to wonder what the hell Massive were thinking when they balanced Gear 2.0. If they just popped all the numbers into a spread sheet and then wrote some fancy math to make their decisions then that is where the issue lies. Machines are arbitrary, gameplay is not.
2 million? Not bad.. How did you achieve this? Mine sits at 1.3 mil damage when I go full red. 92.8% all weapon damage and 33% shotgun damage. It's not a god roll one as it has only 8% shotgun damage.Originally Posted by As1r0nimo Go to original post

I get around 2,5mil using OD new hollow points, boomstick talent and vigilance backapack in terms of talents, the rest is just a bunch of reds and damage to armor. But yeah solo heroic i drop reds 1-2 shots, veterans 2-3 and elites in around 4-6. But in groups it just goes to over 8 shots per elites since shotguns are quite slow they end up worse than snipers and doing damage very slowly ot the point its' inneficient
They can definitely be a bit more niche - especially on higher difficulties, closing the distance needed to use them properly is dangerous in its own right.
I was able to get a Backup Boomstick with God rolled Shotgun and Armor damage. Now I use it pretty often for stripping armor off new targets or finishing off exposed enemies.
I've recalibrating Close and Personal on to it... need to do some testing to see if that Weapon Damage boost carries over to other weapons...

Shotguns suck because they don't even work as intended, as with pretty much everything in this game right now. The amount of times i've had to read ubi or massive say "we are working on it" in the past 2 weeks is unacceptable.
As you can see in my video, my Spas 12 is listed at 777k damage per trigger pull, yet I get 97.14k (on average) multiplied by 4, because for some reason all shotguns now only shoot 4 pellets.
So 97.14k x 4 = 388.56k. Times that by 2 and you get 777.12k the ACTUAL damage listed. So essentially either the inventory UI is displaying the wrong numbers, or our damage with shotguns is taking a whopping 50% cut (probably because of the pellet count.)
Either way it's bugged and it's getting ridiculous just how many things are in this patch.
