Hey guys, ended up buying this game despite the bad press. Movie kinda got me hooked, anyway thought i should post this;
Had an issue where after buying and installing off steam the game ran fine for the first boot-up, but kept crashing at 20th Century Fox every time i tried to start after that. From a previous post it seems it has something to do with dx10. Anyway, the fix was to manually change to dx9 every time you quit the game so that it would start up the next time.
I found another way - you should go into C:\Program Files > Steam > SteamApps > common > j.c. avatar > bin and make a shortcut to desktop from the Avatar.exe file in there.
If you then always use this shortcut the game doesnt crash on startup. If you go through steam, it will.
Anyway, i'm putting my faith in this game's developers! So far i'm loving it, but things like the Direhorses movement and the lack of unique mission type are letting it down a bit.
now that i have had the chance to play mulitplayer im happyit is loads of fun maybe a few balance issues here and there, and i would love to see smaller clips in grenade launchers and longer reload times for them to stop the spamming off grenades so some of the other guns get used.
there are a few things i think would make multiplayer alot more enjoyable however.
first of all we need more then one moving speed like shift to walk or something, it would make it much easier to sneak through the bush or move into an area slowly and cautiously, it would just add the the experience.
i am also still surprised that there is no crouching or prone in the game, i think being able to crouch down behind objects or crouch and hide in bushes would be awsome and i could think of alot of times when i would put walk and crouch to use, oh how many times i have been standing in some bushes or behind and object with my head poking above it think, i wish i could crouch. i think these things might slow the game down just a little so it can be played more like its supposed to be and stop this rush of men running throw with bombs in a ****storm.
it would anbel na'vi to hide and sneak and ambush like they should be able to. and it would enable rda to move like normal humans though the bush in a military operation, (crouching sneaking and cautiously)
another thing that is sadly missed in muliplayer is mounts for the na'vii think you all know wat im talking about there.
even if you have to take a bit of health of the thanator to make it killable it would be awsome to see those running around in a mulitplayer match.
and why not use the airmounts and vehicles, you have built and designed them so mgiht as well make a MP map that uses them
hope im not asking to much i jsut think adding these few things would keep players playing for alot longer and inlovle players in the world alot more![]()
Well, just got the game a couple of days ago, after watching the movie. So far, it's entertaining enough to keep me playing through it's frustrating technical issues. Story is not very in depth, solo play is on rails in some areas, but it looks beautiful, and the combat is fun.
Vehicles... most are ok. I've been doing the Na'vi side, so I don't have much experience with RDA ones, but one thing to point out is that the banshees' handling is... terrible. They are extremely difficult to maneuver, which is a big let down considering that is one of the things I was REALLY looking forward to.
Another drawback: random crashes. I'm playing on Windows 7 64 bit, and so far the longest I've gone without a crash is 90 minutes. Typically I get 30-60 minutes of play before a crash, but I did have one episode of 3 crashes in a 10 minute interval. I've looked for other comments and help with this issue, but so far have found only a few people seeming to have this same problem, also with Windows 7 64 bit. I haven't experienced the crash right at start up, like some others. Mine appear to be totally random. I end up having to start Task Manager most times and End Task, then usually have to kill the process also. Sometimes, though, I get the Windows pop-up to end the program.
Anyway, overall, I would say this game has some potential. I would really like to have it stable, so I can try multi-player, and it would be nice if we could get vehicle controls tuned better. Out of the box, it really should not have this many crashes. This is the only app I've had issues with in Windows 7 so far, and it's a bit disappointing. Honestly, if it doesn't become stable soon, I doubt I'll be buying another Ubisoft game any time in the foreseeable future.
If Ubisoft concentrates on getting multiplayer up and running properly, with improved gameplay from the ideas of players, this game will kick ***, and will be drawing in many players from around the world, because this game is a battleground !! and i love battlegrounds !!!!
if this game gets a chance to be improved and tweaked, i will be saving for a 3d monitor. for multiplayer. i love multiplayer mode... its one of the best thing that humans have invented..... or have the aliens given us the technology!
better ask an area 52 employee about that !
muhahahahah
My feedback on Avatar:
The single player is amazing and they really put much love into the background story and Pandorapedia. The multiplayer is good already and is fun, but it needs improvements, like a real lobby system and friends system.
Nothing other to complain, I recommend this game. And I dunno what all those "It does not run on Win7 for sure" topics are about, but I run Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and it works flawlessly.
Greetz,
Maxunit
I gotta say, this game is VERY fun, I got it for both the Xbox360 and the PC (7 32bit), with most "movie to game" scenarios the game generally isn't very good, but this is an exception! (Should have known though as the movie is beyond words), Great Environments, Fantastic Single Player, needs a few tweaks but otherwise completely worth the money spent, I recommend it
I dont know about the consoles, but the critics were really just wrong about this game for pc. It reminds me alot of Lost Planet, which i loved. Anyway, to anyone looking for affirmation that this is a good game, i took the chance getting this (against a horde of bad press) and for what its worth, i reckon its a good game.
Have played all Na'vi and part RDA campaign so far, some things which would improve the game:
- Crouch, there's been many a time where i could go for a crouch.
- Direhorse movement and Mech Melee Attack. Apart from these things which are lacking, i find the mounts fine - never had these control issues that many people are complaining of, just a little learning curve.
- Mission Packs, just because i dont wanna be finished soon. Critics argued the missions were boring - all i can put it down to is movie-game bias.
- Night Time? I havent got to play at night yet, and Pandora is cool at night. Did i miss something? If not, some night missions (bioluminescence rocks) in the aforementioned pack would be sweet.
Na'vi - In line with the crouch wish, it'd be nice if i could go prone / hunt the poor little humans. So movement tweaks to represent would be cool.
Overall, good work guys. The critics had it out for you guys a bit i think.
Pandora is deadly at night. Try Multiplayer. There is a nighttime maps. And it's pretty hard to do something against nice Na'vi hunters- Night Time? I havent got to play at night yet, and Pandora is cool at night. Did i miss something? If not, some night missions (bioluminescence rocks) in the aforementioned pack would be sweet.
Na'vi - In line with the crouch wish, it'd be nice if i could go prone / hunt the poor little humans. So movement tweaks to represent would be cool.
Left shift is the only movement tweak available at this moment.
