What tank builds are you guys using?

First off, I'm mostly a solo player unless some friends have the time to hop on, and I play on the Hard Global Difficulty with Fog of War on.

That being said, I've been trying to do my best with a tank build, using Assault Rifles and Shotguns, and three pieces of Golan Gear and Badger Tuff, so I'm around 1.6 million armor, even though it might as well be tissue paper, with armor regen or armor % on my gear.

I'm not one of those meta hunters that want to glass NPCs in three hits, I like playing tactically and if I'm in a tight spot I'll pop my bulwark shield. I used the repair drone but it gets destroyed as soon as it goes up so it's pretty useless for me atm (if you guys have any suggestions for something to replace the repair drone let me know)

Anyway, IF you guys solely play tank solo, post your builds.

I'm aware armor is in a ****ty spot at the moment, but melting things is not my play style.

Strange, it actually is the game for me since I greatly enjoy it despite some of my misgivings. One of those is that the play style I just happen to play is in a rough spot. Hence why I asked for people, who have constructive things to say, regarding Tank Builds to chime in. Your input wasn't needed.

If you don't have anything constructive to add, then this ISN'T the thread for you.

You're going to have to use tactician and a shield to essentially give you another armor bar. Still not worth much, but it's your only option atm.

The Tactician Drone? I don't typically have problems with target acquisition, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have extra eyes to what's going on.

Or are you talking about the Gunner Spec? Since it adds armor bonuses for using the minigun and various other armor bonuses for killing enemies or swapping plates, etc.

No no. The specialization that heals proxies. The hive one. It heals your shield too. Essentially you can have a beefy shield that gets some really good heals. It worked great before, not sure how it does now though.

First question. Do you have WONY?

If you do, Here are some ideas/concepts. You'll want to invest into Skill Tier and Damage Reduction depending on which skills you want to run. It'll take experimenting with to find what fits you.

Concept 1: You do a classic Bulwark Shield Build with CC skill or Defender Drone. Specialization wise, you'll want Gunner. For extra armor, Mini-Gun doesn't do much in terms of damage but it's a good thing to use when boxed in. It'll take figuring out when to use in a fight.

Concept 2: You could do CC Build on controlling mobs through status effects like Fire. Firewall Specialization would be ideal for this concept.Pick up the unique shield and a fire-starter launcher. You can control mobs with fire effects and keep them occupied and "aggro'ed" with flamethrower/shield combo.

Concept 3: You act more like a support class but you'll focus drawing attention to yourself and a decoy. This is more aggressive playstyle where you debuff enemies and buff allies through talents/gear. Think of this like being a rusher character but using yourself and decoys as distractions. You may want to use Gunner's Banshee Pulse with it to keep enemies off balance.

I think there is a lot of confusion on how armor is supposed to work.
Armor Build is not meant for you to face tank. Shield Build on the otherhand does let you face tank.

It just lets you survive a few pop shots.
Also if you are using something like the Repair drone you need +1 tier skill mods to back it up for the healing because there is no way you are going to get the healing power you need with no Tech tiers.

So your best option is to run Talents on your armor that gives you over shield - so right before you take damage you drop the shield get overshield so your primary armor health doesn't drop.
Also the cool down on overshield is around 10s if I remember right which gives you tons of time to move to a safer spot.

Keep in mind you need damage to hurt enemies. So if you are not running red you need talents that buff your damage to compensate.
Otherwise you might as well be using a water pistol.
