Never played the original or just fancy a change, don't sleep on D1.
Hadn't played it in probably the best part of a year here but by god does it age well and stack up well against D2 especially if youre just a base game player in D2 but a gold owner in D1. It's that satisfying feeling of having a complete, fully featured game.
The amount of gear sets, the classified sets, the amount of customisation and apparel sets that we got, the Usain Bolt AI in legendary which im sure will shock some people that never played it and complain about difficulty on here, an actual fleshed out commendation system, the shields and the missions themselves. Really, top drawer.
I agree. D1 is still a great game.
I admit I hadn't played it in a while but I had a go on it last week. I spent several hours on it and loving the stuff I now miss on D2. Shame really, they could have done so much more with D2 but instead they took the other root and taken stuff out and done less.
So glad I played D2 from release date, as I think if I picked up the game now after the update, I'd probably be that disappointed after playing the first one I'd end up selling it.
I greatly enjoyed D1, and while I appreciate D2 by a larger margin, there are things that make me miss D1. I don't have a lot of gripes with D2, but I really do miss being able to swap left or right perspectives with a shield, it offered more flexibility in aiming at your targets while keeping the armor of your shield facing the enemy better.
The other things I miss are Underground and Survival, some of those game play aspects are present in D2, but I would much prefer those game modes ported over and designed to fit neatly within the framework of D2. For instance, for Survival the blizzard of NY could be replaced by the odd sandstorm that appears in DC, with the same parameters, i.e. fight off infection and make it to one of the three Dark Zones.
Underground could remain the same, it was pretty much perfect as it was imo. Then there are Incursions, which would be a bit trickier to do, though with the expansion released they could tie into the evolving plot there, i.e. Manhunt which tasks other Rogues to test defenses or stir up resistance against the Division among the other factions, etc.
Then by all the Gods, the Apparel and sheer amount of gear items in D1. I was pretty saddened by the terrible lack of Apparel in D2 and I can understand putting a lot of "choice" items behind a paywall, I would kill for some actual Olive Drab clothes and weapon skins. I don't care for all the fancy colors and patterns, I prefer the old system with Flecktarn or Multicam in twenty million different color shades, or just Drab colors, etc. D2 is pretty bad about this because there's really nothing that matches between gear and apparel. For instance if I was wearing the JTF fatigues I'd use the Savannah gear dye to try and match it, but it doesn't look quite right.
For a sequel, I say it's just OK, there are a lot of things I like, but just those things above would make this game a 10/10 for me.
I already played through it. It was a great experience, but the problem arose when I got to Legendary missions. I couldn't find full teams in Matchmaking to run them. There was one point where I ended up running the one in Madison Square Garden with this one other dude and since we couldn't find 2 more, we just ran it in a duo. Took us like 2 hours and many deaths, but eventually we finished it. Felt like we had gone through a legit war together. LOL After that I was like, okay I'm done. It didn't help the DZ was full of annoying peeps too. I tried running with two guys and they just kept saying annoying **** in broken English until I eventually exploded on them. Mofos were acting extremely condescending because of my playtime, even though I've probably played more games at the highest level than they have in their entire libraries.
