WARNING UNPOPULAR OPINION: I actually really like the gear 2.0 system.

I know the forums are currently filled with hundreds of threads of people hating on the new gear system. But honestly... I like it. Hell I damn near love it. It made building a role easier, gearing up faster, but still leaves that dangling carrot for finding perfect gear that can never be truely reached. I prefer these simplified role, I can now be a pure tank build for the first time ever in the game instead of a jack of all trades. This system has brought me back for the first time in 4+ months after quiting the game out of boredom, as well as 4 of my friends who has also quit and we honestly really enjoy the simplicity of the new system, with 2 dps specs me as tank and one as a gadget healer. Feels like a mmo.

Now yes I have things I can nitpick about it, some of the new talents are kind of... crap compared to others. And as a result of these changes the game got at least twice as difficult. (Though I actually kind of enjoy that, challenging difficulty is now as hard as the old heroic was.) And I think some additional balances are needed here and there. (many gadgets are really crappy now without speccing into them heavily.) But we're having a blast with this now and enjoy grinding gear. Hell I even bought the expansion which I had no plans of getting till I saw how much fun I was having again.

Have to say I'm of the same opinion. I had some great OP builds in the previous system and to be honest I'm glad they're gone now, game had become way too easy with zero challenge to it. Looking forward to getting to level 40 now and already have some good ideas for some new builds. I now find the game interesting again and will enjoy farming for new high end gear.

If you haven't played in 4+ months, you completely skipped over the last major update, and had poor gear anyways, so nothing to lose starting over. I'm happy with the expansion and don't mind having to grind gear again for Level 40. If I didn't buy the update, I wouldn't be happy at all having to re-grind the same old missions for the gear I've perfected since the last update.

Any good guides on how this works? I've been picking up information here and there, but looking for a solid guide on what the new system does and how to maximize it.

I only played for a few hours yesterday but so far I think I am going to like the new system. I hope it does allow for more Role specific builds and more required synergy withing group. Will take some adapting....while I got thru it...running a Challenge DC mission with my "converted" build was not easy by any means....which was a welcomed change since it was stupid easy before.

My 4pc OD build is still pretty strong in NY..Now we get bleed ammo instead of explosive..
And the ammo still drops like rain..

I'm sure a few more levels and it'll become less of an impact, but Hopefully I see some OD on the way..

I'm liking New York a lot..

I do like gear 2.0 but damn was it jarring at first. I went from a skill support AR build to full armor tank and no damage or skills build. Now that we are on it though I can get what I want out of it. Just have to start the car backup after it hit a wall.

OP, me too. It's efficient, and intuitive.

The gear system is fine.. enemy balance is the problem.

At level 40 an elite can 1 shot you for 1 million damage, literally.

The enemy's power needs to be fixed, not ours. That's where the problem is.

... and I mean their damage needs to be reduced by about 75%, no joke.

I had 9 builds before trimming down for Gear 2.0. The only one I miss was the lucky shot aces build, and only because of how stupidly funny it was to play group heroics with one hand Getting back a sense of progress and motivation for different types of builds was worth it IMO.

Agreed on the difficulty returning, though I am sympathetic to ensuring solo players are still viable through at least challenging difficulty (as those are daily projects).
