After reading the notes and playing for a substantial amount of time, I think this review will help highlight potential and current problems the game has.
IMPROVING OFFENSE
First point, I feel the game is barely centred around defense at this point. The heroes based on this tactic have been nerfed substantially, making their defensive and counter options either limited and predictable, or useless. I believe the reason people are on the defense so much, is because giving heroes the option to wait until you throw out anything, just to dodge, i-frame your attack and smack you on the side of the head over and over again has effectively ruined the game and created a massive and obvious shift in commonly used heroes. At this point, many people facing a faster opponent rely on forcing them to run out of stamina, or use mix ups which can be reacted to.
If you want the game to be more offense oriented, then the first step is to remove I-frames, forcing the heroes that rely on them to use mixed tactics.
IMPROVING CONSISTENCY
This one is an interesting point and one I made an earlier forum post about. In my opinion, attack indicators in general are very poor in function and there are high level players who have said they can be more comfortable playing without them.
I think for this one, the stance and attack indicators will need a rework to be more readable. You can find yourself relying on it more than paying attention to your opponents animations, which tends to be a problem during cluttered battles.
Maybe adding an option to reduce transparency on your stance and attack indicator will be sufficient.
PATCH NOTES
Stamina consumption - Where do I even begin. This is a horrible addition to combat. If a fast hero wants to burn through their stamina instead of being smart, then they should be punished for it. Giving these heroes the option to keep up this overwhelming offensive is frankly, a massive buff and a massive middle finger to everyone else.
This last point is the killer, and for that reason, it should be taken out completely before adapting the rest to the full online experience.
Feel free to get a discussion going, I want to hear everyone's opinion on this matter.
I agree with this a whole lot! You forgot to mention the highly jacked up damage numbers though. Conqs top heavy is 14?!?!?! Shaman bleed 15(+16)?!?! And shugos finishing heavy is 19 I think? The goal is to get people to throw more attacks that they wouldnt have previously. Also, on the stamina. I agree with the wiff and blocked, but the parried should still apply the stamina punish (although reduced would be acceptable, to a point though). I say that because they are trying to make the game more prediction (skill) based, so why are you not granting the player with skill some sort of stamina punish?
The new stamina model is horrible. I can say 100% if that model goes live, that'll kill For Honor for me sadly. Fights need time to breathe and there are characters where the only way to reliably fight back is to drain their stamina and then apply pressure. Having the new stamina model just turns it into a spam fest and greatly imbalances the overall play.
The lower damage numbers also exacerbate the issues I already have with super tanky characters like Lawbringer as it leads to more revenge which makes them extremely OP in Dominion.
In general, I would like to see health pools normalized so the tanky characters aren't SO tanky.
Additionally, Revenge needs an absolute rework or just remove it altogether. You should have to earn it on some level and not have such a big health pool you get it for just being wrecked.
I was fighting a zerk as highlander and saw that his lights did 14 and mine 13 as well as his heavys doing more than mine, I got parried in offensive stance and gets me to about 25% stam from about 80%, as well a glads instant zone attack does nearly 30 dmg and my heavys are doing 20 to 30 dmg with one of the biggest weapons in history, they really need to look at the dmg and stam numbers, if these changes go live it will make the game very unfun, highlander was already in a funny place before this and if these changes go out it will make him really really weak.![]()
