Has any game released an expanion that renders gear usless as fast?

Reading some posts here and there and with a cynical head on for a minute. Has any game dumped their base game as fast as Massive here? WoW xpac every 2 years or so depending on gear ilvl your gear isn't trash at the first level increase, Diablo 3 took 2 years to release its fix for loot in RoS, I didn't play Destiny 1 long enough to see if their xpac did this or how long it was to it released same for D2 really.

Just seems for year 1 pass owners(early access only) and the rest of the players got nothing really, 6 short missions, then soon as the year is up o hey we got a full on new map but you got to pay for it seems odd to me, you made the player base mad/leave then instead of fixing what they broke working back some good faith then release an expansion

I wouldn't have minded if the paid expansion came later in the year after they put the loot fix into the base game again making it worth while to play and enjoy maybe bring back a few players who where waiting on this change, but to charge for a fix seems insane to me. (Please don't say the change is for the base game when that gear is obsolete) atleast look like your trying to please the player base.

Though I will say this the cheap price of the game has put it back into the top 50 played games Will be an indicator if they where successful with their plan.

Depending on which game you're talking about because MMOs with gear grind tend to render gears absolutely useless within 1 year or less average based on their content updates or time it takes to release a new expansion.

Final Fantasy 14 will make current gear useless every 6 months on their even number Major content updates for example.

It is a thing with live service games evolution of gear the budget system definitely did not work and all the posts I've seen noone is going to miss it as for the year 1 pass being a little light in content yep I agree it was, if I buy first class or premium I want first class or premium I don't want to sit in coach and get babysham ! you pay more you should get more be it special apareal exclusive weapons or spin off quests or destinations etc because you are investing more you should fairly get more like in a restaurant if you spend more on a meal they then don't bring you the same food that standard paying customers receive you get extra and don't come back with ruthless and lullaby cause they are just poor versions of merciless and sweet dreams

How often do you go back to your level 6 gear in end game?

Practically every single one of them. What would be the point of releasing new content and gear when what you have had for the last year is better. That doesn't make you want to keep grinding. You want to keep playing to find the new better stuff.

Now that being said. Elder Scrolls Online has managed to stay fun, and not heavlily loot based grinding without upping their gear cap.

this just seem like another "jump on the hate train" thread.
why would you open something like that?

ANY readup on any online game would show you that alsmost every onlinegame, even some offline-games render the current meta useless with their updates.
because people want more challenges more updates more bosses etc...
here are some new levels for your character, but keep the current gear, it is enough... boring and useless

here is some new content your couldnt possibly clear without upgrading...fun and exciting

You can probably add Destiny 2 to that as well, even though the new seasons come with new gear/weapons and the 2.0 gear overhaul, people still use old/legacy gear and weapons. I do I have some gear pieces on my character that are old/legacy heck I still use a weapon from the Trials of 9 which is 2 years old.

But for a game to progress it has to do the overhaul at some point and doing it with a large expansion is a better way of doing it than just putting it in for the sake of it So even though I disagree with the paywalling of game facets) doing the loot overhaul with the expansion is spot on.
