By not allowing our rolls to carry over, you are essentially solidifying a lot of players decision to hold off on purchasing the expansion.
A "live service" game builds on assets we've acquired through our time playing. That's the entire point of a live service. Not to deliver an entirely new game, or experience that renders our keepsakes meaningless or useless.
Most games like TD2 or Wow or etc evolve on some widely known fundamental concepts. Those being the dps, healer, tank axis or "trinity" and skill points or experience or attribute points. When updating and evolving the game, developers offer tiers or levels of gear. We players work towards that new gear on a treadmill. Replacing our gear is a part of the journey we love.
However, we keep our skill points.
What the expansion will essentially do is wipe our gear AND our skill points. This IS new. Most games don't do that because the developers know how upsetting that is for us players. When you go over the standard price point for a live service game, you do that knowing that your expenditure is a part of an investment, much like the avatar you are working on creating in that game.
This 2 system library is not a good idea. These high rolls we've kept through the year are our "skill points". We've kept them, and managed our inventory meticulously knowing this. We've even passed on gear, and spent the limited amount of time we have to play a game on managing those assets. Losing them, or rendering them irrelevant for the expansion just gives an instant, "Well @#$% it then" feeling for a lot of TD2 players who are already short on patience from you doing this a few times over the course of 2019.
Our rolls should be put into a table flow paradigm that reallocates them into the second tier library. For instance, AWD and DTE will convert to the new AWD, but at a price. Let's say you have a DTE roll that is 80% of max. Well, then it should transfer over to the new library. What if the total weight of the rolls is higher than the rolls we have you may ask? Then your new conversion is based on the watered down roll you have in comparison, simple. That's a more than fair expectation.
Our gear will get ruined, that's fine. We need to farm new exotics? Nothing new. I've replaced many weapons with the new shiny tier of the day in many other games. But asking us to just trash EVERYTHING but our apparel drops is just plain out of touch and nonsensical, almost crass.
As a result, your expansion will be admired from a far for a bit by a lot of players who have stuck this out with you this past year. I thought for sure when you said "all your gear will convert" that meant our rolls would be saved. I understand literacy, but if this was the case you should have said it then. You knew we were wondering about this, don't act coy.
I really hope you have something up your sleeve, or this will be a easier transition than it seems. Because at this point, I'm really disappointed and very skeptical about WoNY, especially with talents being removed and it seeming like there will be less rpg in TD2. Hate to use the "C" word, but it looks really casual.
Hope I'm very VERY wrong,
Aims
Why not just allow rolls saved when at or below lvl 30 to be used at 30-40, but rolls saved between 31-40 can only be used at 40? It does seem odd to me to have lvl 30 rolls not be usable at 40 when the roll caps will be higher. Obviously you don't want 40 rolls being used to smurf a 30 or something, but it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to work around.
I personally am not torn up about having to do a complete no help rebuild at 40, but I can fully understand why people would be upset they can't use the library to assist.
I agree. It seems rather simple to me. I don't even mind if the potency of my god rolls is reduced. But just as you said, as long as it can "assist". Just something. This seems kinda lazy.Originally Posted by BioXTC Go to original post
We know they'll change, but the end product will be at the very least similar. The conversions aren't even that hard to figure out. For example damage. The only 2 red attributes I've seen from the expansion are weapon damage and weapon handling. If this is the case, then all dte and awd can convert to wd, and chc and chd can convert to wh (with their respective potencies).Originally Posted by dagrommit Go to original post
The simple, common conversations can be made throughout the game. He'll, I was even okay with my xp, grenade damage, and burn or whatever else legacy rolls being converted to random b.s. lol. Just something. But this? This just seems inadequate and illogical.
You obviously know how to build a case, nice post Aims!
First off, Thylander has stated that even if they wanted to, it is not possible to recognize rolls and translate them to a high roll in the new system.
Second, I think with a gear reset like this, being able to save your stats al depends on what it's worth a couple of levels higher.
I.E. Your 54% DTE translate to 15% WP, which is (don't know the value this is an example) the possible highest roll.
Now you start playing WoNY, and at level 32, you already pick up multiple 17% + rolls, making your current library obsolete.
I really think that this is the case, since on SOTG they said multiple times "You are going to want the new stuff, anyway."
This is already being removed from the game with TU8 and ALL gear currently in the game WILL be convertedOriginally Posted by blueray789 Go to original postWhat we're upset about is NOT being able to use ANY of our CONVERTED rolls on to HELP us lvl up to 40. This makes ZERO sense, it was confirmed by a dev tweet. Honestly I'm pretty upset about this, it's like all of the time I put into this game up until this point is for nothing. They'er adding a stat library and tell us our gear will be converted to not worry but, FORGET to mention that we won't be able to use these new rolls anyway... I'm sorry but, WHAT! THE F*CK??!???!!?
Most of us already knew that we'll have to re-farm which is okay. I don't see a problem with at least being able to use our current gear as a literal stepping stone towards working to that new power cap.
The devs on Jan 17th-
Great, our legacy items will be converted, I'm fine with this.
January 20th -
makes sense, mailbox is where our overflow mods will go ( when they get removed from all other pieces except for Chest, Backpack, and Mask )
January 21st -
I figured this much, low GS items will be worthless and convert poorly.
January 22nd -
Again, great news about conversion in terms of respect to our "old" gear.
Already knew that % armor was going away along with some other changes, this is fine.
NOW, 1 Month later... February 22nd 2020 -
I'm NOT OK WITH THIS![]()
True but they also in other games cases keep your old gear relevant, destiny 2 with gear 2.0 a new expansion/content with new weapons and new gear done differently but my old gear is still usable/viable and can be bought upto the new levels, so people have a choice to kit themselves ot and make builds with either the new stuff/the previous stuff or mix n match between them.Originally Posted by CJ Fresh Go to original post
ESO is another.
Thankfully for the time being i'm not getting the new expansion, i'd rather see how it plays out before I purchase.
It's not that simple due to the core attribute system. Weapon damage only rolls as a core attribute, and only on some brands. Let's say you have high health and DTE rolls on a Murukami mask, which one do you keep as the core attribute? What do you do with gloves that have both AWD & weapon-type damage? Or a chest with Armor % and Armor?Originally Posted by aimswcontroller Go to original post
People are understandably fixated on what they're losing (the sunk cost fallacy), while ignoring the benefits of the new system. For me, the possibility of god rolls, however rare, is worth it.
And as blueray789 notes, removing the 30% armor rolls that weren't meant to exist in the first place is a GOOD thing for balance..
I'm not sure what narrative you're trying to tell, but his tweet on Jan 17th said exactly that - existing rolls weren't going to be stored.Originally Posted by AllTalentActive Go to original post
