Renown gain is different depending on the hero. Some heros actually gain more renown by default for capping and boosting zones. Scoring in dominion IMO needs to be overhauled. It's a territory based mode that honestly doesn't reward keeping and taking zones enough. it pushes killing as the best way to win a bit too much for my liking. Also Minion lane aside from a few maps is absolutely busted in how much points it gives.
Though honestly the biggest problem for dominion as far as MM goes is people's ignorance on how to properly play. You see way too many people holding a point when you don't need to. Or running to triple cap when a team fight is going on. Or always picking a fight with 2 or more people. etc. Though most of this is indeed the fault of the player for not learning I still wish the game could some how teach rotations, peeling, and when to commit to joining a fight or letting it play out while you go make sure a zone stays safe.

That doesn't help the team at all.

So, flip side to this argument. I have been in many games where all three of my team mates get stuck fighting a rolling 3v2, getting stalled out and eventually killed by revenge not even in or contesting a zone. Meanwhile I have had to try and keep one of the zones and the soldier lane, by myself, against two other people who have realised the rest of my team are just going to deathmatch one needless fight and all they have to do is focus me out of the rest of territory. Players who treat dominion like skirmish, and who frankly should populate the deathmatch playlist where kills matter more than anything else, make the game no better than those who boost zones.
I would also say that if someone got 800 points boosting zone then there is no way they didn't also kill enemy players, go do a vs ai and boost the zone the team isn't farming bots in some time and you'll see that kind of score doesn't happen even for those who get more points for boosting zones.
No disrespect but you sir have no idea what you are talking about. Defending zone matters for 2 things it gives your team necesarry points and gives your hero renown points , removing this completely deletes roles certain classes have so its stupid idea to begin with.Each class has some minor roles and playing right with each class leads to victory not killing heroes.
I play as Hitokiri , Conquorer and Valkyrie and each hero gains renown by boosting zones so in every team I play that role. Each time when I was able to defend zone for prolonged time my team would win its that simple , if I get killed it gets complicated .
Many time my team gets destroyed, has far less takedowns, loses every group battle but in the end we win , and why we win ??? Its simple because I was boosting our zone and earning us double points . Minions zone always changes from one side to the other and opponent doesnt boost their zone so in the end they get less points.
Even today certain Centurion had 17 takedowns I had only 4 , my teammates 6,6,8 and we won , we won by points that is what dominion is all about but you certainly dont understand that.Go play deathmatches.
