This might be an unpopular one, but I like this idea.
So being boxed out of a point is highly frustrating. You're fighting to get in not just to stop the the enemy from gaining points, but also to stop the enemy from healing. You end up going nowhere with it a lot of the time because the enemy just keeps healing and hits you when you attempt to roll in and whatnot.
Anyway, my idea is to have an expanded zone off of the point. We can call this the gray zone. Now, when the your enemy is in the gray zone, it doesn't put the point in neutral and stop the enemy from gaining points. It deactivates the healing effect from the zone. So if the enemy wants to box you out of the gray zone he would be in the gray zone himself and not gain health back. Why would he ever want to box you out of the gray zone? Well he would want to box you out to help his teammate heal for example. On the other hand if he wants to box you out of the point so he could boost, you will be in the gray zone which will deactivate the healing effect on the point.
Anyway, I thought about this when I was boxing out this one guy last night and making him really mad. I just kept healing and stuffing his attempts to get in. I think this would add an extra layer of teamwork and strategy to Dominion.
I'm curious to see what anybody thinks about it.
I have always thought about this but specifically for breach zones, especially the healing zone. I always thought a second contest zone is needed for the sole purpose of stopping the enemies from using the zone. I even think map buffs (like an attack buff on the ground) could benefit from this mechanic. Area denial is extremely character dependent and is biased to the defender thanks to how counter guardbreaks push away the initiator for whatever reason. I think this could be cool for dominion and wouldn't necessarily make it worse. It would just force defending sides to be more aggressive instead of having the enemies come straight to them because they have no choice.
The attacker would still have to initiate because standing in the gray zone wouldn't stop the point accumulation. He is the one attacking and trying to take the point after all so the attacker should have to initiate. It would just make it so the defender doesn't have the benefit of constantly gaining health putting a tremendous amount of urgency and struggle on the attacker making it a bit more of a fair fight.Originally Posted by CanadianSoupMan Go to original post
Nothing, but what happens when they also counter with two people boxing you guys out?
It's a very specific scenario I know and absolutely should not be implemented before all the other problems. I just thought it'd be cool. Plus add a bit more tactics to Dominion isn't a bad thing. Dom could use a few more tactics to it, it's pretty shallow as is.
Then they have successfully implemented a tactic to keep you guys out.Originally Posted by Baggin_ Go to original post
Dominion in casual matchmaking can be shallow, yes. That's because the average MM player doesn't understand the tactical nuances at play nor do they have the team coordination to engage in these tactics. Co-ordinated and competitive dominion is very far from shallow. There are a lot of things happening and a lot of dynamic elements in play. If you haven't already I would highly recommend joining the FH Trials Discord and getting involved in 4v4 scrims. Co-ordinated teams playing competitive dominion matches is the most fun experience you can have in For Honor in my opinion. It's the way the mode is meant to be played.
Yeah, I joined it. I also am not ignorant on how Dom is played. Thing is, most of the strategy in Dom is just the combat itself and not the actual mode. The mode is a very simple mode, there is just not a whole lot happening. I've watched enough competitive Dom to know that it's not much different than casual as far as the mode itself goes, the combat oh hell yeah, tons of strat there.Originally Posted by Vakris_One Go to original post
I was just thought it was a cool idea, why do you competitive guys always have to poop on everything. Could be a cool addition for an event or something.
Edit: And yes in casual, I understand there are players that do stupid things and are not using any strategy at all, but still. There is not much strat to be used in Dom. At the end of the day all it is is a capture and hold game. This mode has been in a ton of other games.
I haven't said anything bad about the idea and I don't speak for other comp players, just myself. Could be a nice event or whatever. I'm just saying I don't have a problem with the core mechanics of Dominion. They're not broken so no need to fix them. There's a lot of other stuff that does need fixing because it adds nothing to the gameplay, like minion's body blocking you, minion corpses body blocking you, GBing minions, better maps, attacks bouncing off walls, etc.Originally Posted by Baggin_ Go to original post
Yeah, I 💯% agree there needs to be a bunch of other fixes. We already know that though, I just like thinking about and reading different ideas to mix things up and stop the constant complaining I and everyone else does on the forums.Originally Posted by Vakris_One Go to original post
