That's definitely a fair critique - and in part is in the hands of those upcoming changes. One could easily say they prefer the feeling of using the Sticky Bomb from TD rather than the Firestarter of TD2, even if they hypothetically did the same damage. How the team not only builds the content around varied builds, but also encourages those builds remains to be seen.

We've got around a year of player feedback and discussions talking about what players look for in these types of builds... 6+ months since we first really talked about the second Raid, as you mention. It will take a certain confidence in the dev team that I acknowledge some here may not have, but I think the coming changes will be hugely beneficial for the game, community, and lead nicely into the Raid... even if they come with some growing pains.
I mean if they pull off, it will be great since they would appeal to large amount of people wanting to other playstyles to be different and thats good, but what bothers me is that how the WHOLE game is a different all together, for example we have how the gear sets are drasticly different designed, they were both limiting and more specilized than anything we have in this game, the D3 gear was a strong shield gear set for tanks ,but that also made all shields builds that didn't use it pretty much trash, we have nothing in thsi game that could fullfill that whole tank aggro capacity in this game, similarly we had firecrest gear set that was very obviously focused on fire status and great crowd control, currently the most similar thing we have is the ongoing directive gear set that "works" qutire differently since most of it's power comes from the other gear pieces giving you bonus against enemies under status effect and explosive damage than actual crowd controls and making bleed viable.

Look something i have very vocal since this game released was how bleed is a joke mechanic in terms of damage, firecrest made fire and burn damage meaningful in both crowd control and as damage, ongoing directive just servers as a mean to kicstart other buffs since bleed is very bad, so one game had a support/debuff gear set, this game has pretty sparkles gear sets. Just like we had D3 for an actual tank gear set, we have nothing as an equivalent here. But i do admit that Aces gear set is definetly a hole in one as a example of support build.

A “projected” 6 month delay being announced so close to the original target date is worrisome for consumers & investors. Company survival comes first.

Player Feedback isn’t the reasoning, If the devs did consider feedback to that level there wouldn’t be yet another sweeping design change wiping out the players Builds and gear.

The redesign essentially is done to rebalances the players. Lazy but effective method. Of course if the players could get decent gear drops more frequently losing the gear the players feel blessed by the RNG gods to even get wouldn’t sting them so bad & would be more excepting of the balancing changes.
