As a lot of people picked up the game over the holidays, I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread of tips for people new to the game.

Sticky thread on resources for new players
News and announcements forum
Patch notes and maintenance notices
Tips
- Don't get attached to a particular gear item of weapon until you get to World Tier 5 - it'll become obsolete quickly.
- Check the tutorials tab if you accidentally skipped over a tutorial in the heat of battle
- Damage to Elite (DTE) is a mask attribute that will be useful when you start encountering gold enemies.
- The biggest health and armor pools are on backpacks and chest pieces
- Hazard protection doesn't help against explosives - you need Explosive Resistance for that
- You can replay missions by selecting them on the map and selecting the difficulty. You cannot replay side missions
- Commendations are in-game achievements. You need to claim commendations on the commendation tab to get the arm patch
- Most missions have a hidden backpack trophy you can find
What tips do you have for new players?
That should probably be added to the sticky thread, but this is the link: https://discord.gg/thedivisiongameOriginally Posted by DeMizeFPS Go to original post
Additional tips:
- Robot dogs have a weak spot - a narrow red strip on their head. Hitting that will sit the dog down for a bit, and stop them from sniping you
- On PC, use / to bring up text chat. Right-click on the tabs to enable/mute the relevant group/area chat
1. Don’t let other players shame you about your build. Whether high skills, DPS, or armor, just play what’s best for you.
2. Explore the White House. Lots of people you need to visit.
3. Don’t get so focused on the daily and weekly projects. They are not mandatory.
4. As you get into Tier 5, look for high % rolls and stash them. As you become more familiar with crafting, you are gonna wish you kept certain gear with high rolls.
5. Inventory, inventory, inventory, for Ubi sake, don’t be a pack rat.
6. You have only 12 loadout slots, use them wisely
7. Beware of the Barber. You may have made your character look as hot as Blake Lively, but the bug at the Barber will turn her into Tori Spelling (at that time, you’ll be forced to mask-it)
You guys really should make a new player guide for new players and guide players to discord.Originally Posted by UbiFaveRED Go to original post
I can't stress enough that making an attempt to retain new players would go a long way for the game.
We need fresh meat to keep the population up.
great idea.. sure i got a few that would simply make your gaming experience more enjoyable:
I put it in a video and keep in mind I am on PC--
https://youtu.be/629HaXrpEeA
1) The chat window has quite a few options.. so you may want to play around with them.. turning on damage numbers is a big one. You can enable larger fonts.. high contrast.. expanded view.. etc.
--- Text to speech is really awesome.. so you don't have to spend time reading what other players type.. an Ai voice will read it out for you.. it can be hilarious at times.. but it's great when you want to focus on the action more and still be able to see what players are saying.. (i would still have it enabled even if i use a mic).
2) Key map your skills for INSTANT USE.. this is handy for healing skills and skills you wish to use on yourself.. or quick deploy.. without having to worry about double tapping the skill button. As I show in my video I have instant skill use keymapped to my Mouse Button 5.
Other than that.. (and this is not in the video)
when you climb ladders.. you can press SHIFT down arrow to slide down the ladder faster.. or SHIFT up arrow to climb the ladder faster. (SHIFT = run on PC..so console whatever button run is should probably work i guess).
The XP bar fades away often.. and sometimes you want to see where your XP progress is.. on PC.. you press F and it will bring the XP bar to the foreground. This will not work if you are interacting with something like a loot box or an NPC since F usually interacts with those things if you are close to them.. not sure what console button is.. but it should be the button you interact with world objects and NPCs. Hope that makes sense.
That Warhound's weakspot.. if you can not hit the small part of it's head.. then the 2nd best spot in my opinion.. at least for me.. is to shoot it's leg/hip joint.. or it's BUM... since the metal is weakest there and if you shred that armor off there you can expose a good chunk of it's internal circuitry.. once you shred the armor there you can quickly hit it's health when you hit it's internal circuits.. At least that's how i find it for me.Originally Posted by dagrommit Go to original post
