Is it not guaranteed anymore? Ive done it multiple times with my Zhanhu & I just eat a heavy through my GB 50% of the time.

There are a select few hero’s that are not effected by a GB through their heavy. I might be missing one but here are the hero’s that are not effected.
-Centurion
-gladiator
-aramusha
-jorm (maybe)

Either you face one of the heroes above, and their attacks have low gb vulnerability, or your opponent actually missed the heavy parry timing and was early/went for a light parry.

I think this is what it is tbh. It seems like i should get the GB but it whiffs lol.

When I notice it against an opponent who doesn't play one of those safe heavy characters (they are all very irritating tbh), I just start to throw out my heavies, and it usually works since they chose an incorrect parry timing and nothing will save them from my actual heavy.
