I'm trying to think of what purpose regular walking/travel serves besides role-play walking for immersion, perhaps someone can point to another legit reason. As it stands, whenever I am in movement outside of combat, I am automatically toggling into sprint mode the instant I start moving via muscle memory. 100% of the time. The only time I ever am not toggled into sprint movement, is when I am doing the slow meme role-play walk after a win in duels or checking out graphics etc.
I am also quite sick and tired of the two button input for a zone attack. No matter how much I try, or practice through repetition, I will NEVER reliably enter in a zone attack consistently. This leads me to literally avoid hereos who rely on zone within their mixups (for example I basically will never unlock the new hero because of this), or leaves me to never really use a zone option select because literally half the time I end up whiffing a light unintentionally. I never really play mid either due to the issue as well because it's quite frankly annoying to whiff lights or heavies when you clearly are intending to zone.
So... I would like to make a case to have in the options menu a simple checkbox, "SWAP SPRINT FOR ZONE INPUT".
Your movement will default to SPRINT when outside of lock combat, with no option for walk, and your sprint button now triggers a ZONE ATTACK input. You sacrifice role-play immersion walking for a sweet, sweet consistent zone input.
What do you guys and gals think of this suggestion? Am I missing something regarding the purpose of slow movement outside of combat lock?
Cheers
Oh I forgot about that feat because it's so useless in Dominion. I can see it's use in Breech but basically that feat only works by "not playing" which is why it's so meme. Still, small sacrifice to stand still in lieu of basically travelling at zero speed. I don't see the problem really. But thanks for reminding me of that feat etc.Originally Posted by Soldier_of_Dawn Go to original post
I had to google what R3 basically is (I had things remapped on my xbox controller soon after starting FH and can't remember what it was originally supposed to input), and that's target swap for xbox default. That seems like a much wonkier problem to have than consistently inputting a zone is lolz.
Can you elaborate on how swapping sprint may prove clunky for some? As I stated in my OP, I'm basically sprinting 100% of the time by default when moving outside of combat lock, and regular speed movement seems to only serve for immersion purposes really.
I can also possibly see sacrificing text/ping input in lieu for a single zone input button..

I'm gonna straight up guesstimate that 85% of the content I've watched for this game on Twitch or Youtube I will see a whiffed light or heavy when it was intended to be a zone within 15 minutes of watching that content. It happens to all of the best of them all the time.
It's annoying.
I also wouldn't consider a button re-map option a waste of the developers time nor some monumental task. It probably takes more resources and time to design and stick the "sale/event" banners on the start page lmao.
The use of feats is dependent on playstyle and skill. What may seem useless for one player might prove valuable to another. In Dominion, healing feats are very useful for players that want to control zone B and avoid the hassle of returning to another zone to heal, or they are just unable to heal at any zone because the opposition controls both of them.Originally Posted by FuncK_D Go to original post
Walking/jogging while healing allows players to continue to their intended destination without stopping and with more health. In a range of scenarios, this allows players to do the following with more health
- save time
- avoid danger
- deal with possible encounters including 1v1, 1xX, Xv1, or XvX
Standing still while healing can leave you vulnerable to feat attacks, ganks, or fights with lower health.
Players can already swap targets by quicking pressing the lock-on button. Using R3 to do the same thing is redundant for many. As we both can agree on, pressing both a button and trigger simultaneously is highly error-prone, especially under pressure. Swapping a duplicate input for a unique one would seem more sensible for many.Originally Posted by FuncK_D Go to original post
We already have to option to custom map all other inputs; for some reason, they left the zone input out. R3 isn't the be-all or end-all since custom mapping lets you remap an input anywhere as the player prefers but having the option to remap zone to a single input is essential. R3 happens to be based on common feedback as it is the most redundant single input on the controller.
Having sprint and walk on the same controller stick is both convenient and intuitive for many, if not, most players. This is a standard setup for many games, not just For Honor. It is also the least error-prone setup. While you prefer to run 100% of the time, this is your personal preference. While the community has requested many times to have the option to remap zone, I'm pretty sure you're the only one who wants to swap the sprint input for the zone attack input.Originally Posted by FuncK_D Go to original post
Walking/jogging isn't just for immersion purposes but allows for full control of your character. Players don't want to be running in a zone/rampart full of feat traps; treading carefully would be the safer option. It also avoids overshooting when players want to revive, pick up an item, access ballista, or use the cauldron. Again, healing while walking/jogging is very advantageous in any game mode while standing still has costly drawbacks.
Again, swapping one input for another in a forced fashion isn't necessary. As we already have the option to custom map all other inputs, we just want the zone attack input to be included in custom mapping and have it applied to a single input instead of two. That would resolve our related issues.
These are all really fair points and you make alot of sense. I didn't know toggling lock would swap targets, I assumed it would just lock on the same target again. I'll have to try that out.Originally Posted by Soldier_of_Dawn Go to original post
