Problem is a lot of missions are hack this or steal that... in the former you end up needing to defend no matter how stealthy you are and in the latter you end up getting shot to pieces a bunch of times-

Ghost recon hasn’t ever been about being able to complete a mission without killing someone- that’s more splinter cell I guess.

But I would like more missions where stealth is the magic word.

So true. Stealth is not even an option in some missions. And I’m not advocating not killing anyone or saying I’m always successful in pulling off a stealth mission. But I try. Ideally some hack missions should be designed for possible stealth - no trace you were there. But they aren’t as you point out. Someone decided that’s no fun.

For example, the new Outcasts story mission has you rescue a bunch of them from an ancient fort. I did that in complete stealth with just a handgun. It was intense and fun. But then you have to defend the place for 2 minutes from ground forces and helicopters. So much for that. As you can imagine my stealth character using nothing more than a handgun and SMG was unable to adequately defend anything as it was. The game forces you to cheat against your own role playing rules. Of course, when I respawned it was glitched and I finished the mission without firing a shot. This game is a mess.

Personally I'd be very happy about having more options with after-market attachments if they'd actually let us use them instead of backing them into "variants".

I think the most fun I ever had in this game was when I was just doing my own thing. Just ignored the story and the faction missions.

For example I'd parachute into a small base at the top of the snowy mountain area and my goal would be to kill the base then escape down the mountain hijacking vehicles as I go. No map, no hud. It's a lot of fun. I really enjoy the small gun fights not the drone garbage.

One of the best parts of the game is the CQC kills when you are close to death. In the animation, the enemy AI blocks your first attempt at a takedown the you both go down and then you get the kill. It's cool to watch when you're in the game and you feel the pressure to survive.

Really a shame Ubisoft turned this into the Division 2 with tiered loot and TD2 raid. They really need to drop the Ghost Recon name and just call this Breakpoint. Hopefully one day we will get a real sequel to Wildlands.

Last night I had somewhat of an epiphany; was playing Herzog's quest line for the very first time (no HUD as per usual).
Did a few intel gathering missions with minimal enemy casualties, mantaining stealth as much as possible that went near "scriptedly smooth", ambushed Sgt Kent's little "torture caravan" and finally reached Auroa Survival Shelter were I got compromissed and had to fight it out suppressors off.
I have to say, it was right there and then that it really clicked for me: Breakpoint's gameplay, provided EVERYTHING's working properly (which it very often doesn't) and players put some significant effort on their part in maintaining the illusion, compensating for BP's redundant mechanics and various shortcomings, can be... good, very good in fact and quite visceral.
Sound had a major role in how good that particular gunfight felt, mostly how loud unsuppressed gunfire is indoors; that and the fact that most enemies took 1 shot center mass from my G28 to put down, which added that extra bit of violent finallity to the whole thing that is so sorely needed in BP's combat (and was so prevalent in the OGR), both for enemies and the player's character (like it was originally advertised?).
I have to say the weather was fittingly dramatic during these missions and played a huge part in this, "perfect storm" of sorts: torrential rains, fog and even a blizzard, as well.
    Credit where credit is due.
