Assassin's Creed downloading from Steam and now a second time, via Uplay

I just bought AC2 from Steam (should've just got it from here but forgot). It downloaded the game in around 2 hours. I clicked play in Steam and the Uplay client pops up and starts a new download.

I used the "Locate installed game" option but it "failed to validate game files, please reinstall".

What's up with this? I waited 2 hours for the Steam download, it said game is ready to play. Now I'm having to wait another 6 to 10 hours according to the download bar on Uplay

    Why two installs????

Yes it was very inconvenient. But what I really want to know is why two downloads? I thought Ubisoft games on Steam could be played immediately.

This can sometimes occur if you own a copy of the game on Steam as well as a copy on Uplay.
Have you purchased the game on both platforms, or do you just own it on Steam?

Come to think of it, I have played it before. Many years ago and I gave the cd away (no Steam at the time as far as I can remember). So that's probably it. Thanks for the heads up.
