The funny thing is that people who complain about odyssey level progression praise the witcher 3, while the level progression, money gain, and resources gain are much slower in the witcher 3 (you can't even reach max level in a single playthrough of the base games and expansions). You need to use a lot of mods to fix many of the game issues. I play the witcher 3 with something like 30 mods.

I think the only reason anyone truly likes odyssey is because the game is flashy looking and fast paced (for the most part) so it's an easy game to get into to begin with. But when you realise the entire game is very surface level, you see that it does nothing special and exists purely to waste time. A giant un-immersive, copy paste open world with nothing interesting in it, with non consequential side quests, a bady voice acted character who can't decide whether they're a husk for the player to mold themselves (like skyrim), or an actual person who has their own personality and background that then cancel out any decisions you've made through dialog choices because only the good options are truly what they would have taken. A narrative that looks like it was written in about 20 minutes with a focus on the isu that're now less interesting than what they once were and 'rpg?' style game play that at first looks good but gets old quickly due to the repetitive fort take downs and damage sponge enemies who are as such unless you have an "EPIC WARRIOR OR ASSASSIN BUILD WITH 60% CRITICAL DAMAGE BECAUSE IMMORTAL SPARTAN GOD' which...can anyone say that doesn't sound really dumb? And naval I guess too, that exists
If you're a fan of this game you're most likely not a fan of the original games direction, which once upon a time wasn't explained to you as if you were an idiot like this game and some other newer ones do. Not calling people idiots but more so pointing out that whoever makes these games (quebec) most likely think you are one. If you like this game all the power to you, but it's not assassin's creed in essence, so don't pretend that 'this is the future of assassin's creed' when it most likely isn't. Will we be stuck with rpg (i really struggle to call this an actual rpg, maybe just open world) gameplay and elements akin to better games to appease those who won't look deeper into what isn't just popular at the time? Yeah most likely until the next big craze comes along and ubi jump on that bandwagon because money. But will we always have terrible writing that has no idea what assassin's creed is...no probably not. The old fans will sometimes get what they want, sometimes not. The odyssey fans will sometimes get what they want, sometimes not as well.
However if you do say the rest of the series is bad and only good now because of the rpg direction, please....please...tell me why you bother defending odyssey when people just want to play assassin's creed.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Ubisoft has to make most of the antagonists absolute monsters in order for the protagonist to be seen as heroes when in any other circumstance they’d be seen as villains.
The only times they’re portrayed as more grey is when they want the protagonist and/or player to develop a connection with them for the story.

So having played every single AC game including Valhalla.., I think, Odyssey is a great game and Im just re-installing it for a 2nd playthrough with the Season Pass.. One thing I would like to point out in ACO unlike other AC games.. is the dialogue choices.. you can lie, fight or talk your way out of some encounters and while the consequences are not game changing.. they can make for some interesting divergence.. Also, ACO has great facial animations.. Cass and Alexio smile, get angry, mock people, have fun.. and you see their faces change to reflect whether their lying or concerned and in my first playthrough there were some moments when I felt genuine concern.. shall i say this or say that to protect him or her or this town,, Its good

...but its not perfect.. Waayyy to much loot and upgrading, the spartans vs athenian battlefields had no meaning in the end, the world was a little too big and empty and.. yes.. it had very little to do with the creed and the lore, but it is a fun game to play.. also be careful of YT reviewers... they got upset because ACO has one of the best gameplay experiences of any AC game.. well rounded and great mechanics and engine, also fans are upset because some feel that UBI wasted the opportunity to extend Bayek and Ayias story in Origins.. and Odyssey was not what the purists wanted or even demanded..

Also, ACO wasnt made by the usual AC Team, but a different division of UBi.. the same Team who made Immortals.. thats why its different..

Best thing here.. YOU play odyssey and YOU decide.. haters always going to Hate.. and Purists always going to bash any changes but I consider myself an AC Fan and personally i love ACO it.. its not perfect and it has flaws .. but its good fun to play.. so enjoy it, but IMO, its not a BAD AC game, its just a spin off and it wouldnt surprise me if UBI didnt come out and say at some point that ACO was an attempt to create a new AC universe Spin off..

    Enjoy

I played every single AC game and I have to say Odyssey felt a bit like a downgrade from Origins. Many details were cut from the game or got a lower quality, but the overall visuals look better or maybe it's the Mediterranean setting that I liked about it.

Gameplay-wise I'd say the fight was quite entertaining, especially the conquest and sea battles. I'm seriously considering replaying it and trying the DLCs as well. Still waiting for the price of Valhalla to go down

Btw if any beginner here is interested in the best armors/outfits in the game, be sure to check my article out.
