For the most part I'd agree with you but some of what you guys call "AR variants" are not AR variants. The HK 416, G28, SIG 516, for example are gas piston guns and cannot share rails and in some cases even stocks with other guns. The G28's stock / buffer tube may look the same but it isn't. It's got a larger diameter buffer tube than commercial or milspec AR-15 buffer tubes. For example, the MK18 in this game is actually a SIG 516 with a Daniel Defense RIS II rail on it. In the real world this would not be possible as the DD RIS II doesn't have provisions or the space to accommodate the external gas piston.
Some of you guys asking for realism need to understand that making the gunsmithing system more realistic would limit certain options. Albeit, we'd be less limited most of the time as we could do whatever we wanted in terms of attachments and optics.
