Nice, found the exact part you're talking about. I doubt it could be a translation error since it explicitly says "contre de l'argent OU de l'Acier".
It still is possible that they got the wrong information though (has happened before with other news outlets).
So yeah, it'd be neat to get some confirmation on this.

As long as the article keeps saying that, it's false advertising. They should be notified that you won't be able to buy the pass for steel.
Also where does it say you can unlock the stuff from the pass with steel?

That can mean a lot of things. The way I interpreted it was that the introduction of the battle pass and its rewards won't replace the output of new content "of the week" and other things. It's an addition.
It'd be cool to buy the stuff with steel, but what would be the point of a premium pass if you could buy its content with steel? That doesn't make sense to me.
It would've made sense if you could buy the pass with steel because that way you could get a discount on all the items. However now you're basically paying actual money to grind things you could've bought with an earnable ingame currency rather than with actual money, through grinding (or paying money for steel)...
That doesn't make sense to me from a business standpoint. You'd be ripping people off (Unless the items are EXTREMELY overpriced).
The heroes definitely will be buyable with steel, but I feel like the premium pass and its content are exclusive to those who bought it with actual money.
