Logged on to get my last battle tiers today and three missions in a row wont resolve or objectives won't show up.
First missions was rescue civilian, upon reaching the drop zone the mission wouldn't resolve. At one point he was standing on the green dot and civilian just followed me around again and again across the rescue zone.. I tried anything I could think of....I flew a few km away and returned, I fast traveled and came back, I even killed him to try and force a retry and still no mission complete or fail and no battle rewards. Because I couldn't fail the mission I simply cant even retry it. I shouldn't have to quit game and force a restart. I mean you're telling me I have to quit the game and relaunch in order to....play the game? No that isn't right.
Second mission was in the arrow testing zone....which is a nightmare of an area. Almost all doors will circle back to the main room and I've spent more time searching for a computer or an info giver, never to find it, than I did killing the wolves that guard it. This place just has poor design. But again, I've been everywhere, and no objective in sight. It should not take more time walking around and searching than it does to eliminate enemies and have fun. This area could be one of the coolest areas in the game, but with poor layout and lack of map for buildings some places are just a hassle that outweigh the fun factor.
Third is in a small outpost where there are only 3 rooms...no computer to hack in any of them. So right there is enough missed battle points to cost me the next tier.
Is this an issue anyone else is facing? I've put in a lot of time trying to complete these battle tiers only to find that bugs prevent me. It isn't a case of me simply overlooking the right room or missing it. I've had cases in a game where 3 people are searching and it just isn't there.
At a little over 160 hours in this game since day one and I'm finding it harder and harder to enjoy it. I really want to love this game, it has so many positive points, but where it's failing it's failing hard.
From everything I've read the game states that there will be no duplicates from battle supplies crates. Yet while using the 416 assault, I got the 416 assault blueprint as a reward. Which means even if I do complete all tiers I'll be missing some rewards. Also have received duplicate camo and face paint adding to the amount of rewards I won't be earning. Though I have one battle supplies crate remaining, I have 4 pieces of gear unclaimed... yet the site says all pieces of gear will be earned upon completion.
I really appreciate seeing the community survey (which I did not take part in) and look forward to the improvements outlined. I spent years promising I wouldn't support ubisoft again after them taking phantoms down just a short time after I spent $70 on in-game purchases with no warning. But when this beta released I figured I would check it out and loved it. So I broke a few years long boycott and pre-ordered upon beta closure. I've defended this game from day one. But its getting harder and harder.
My opinion of the sales tanking were a part of a "its cool to hate ubisoft" trend on youtube and with reviewers. Whether it was leftover resentment of the bumpy Wildlands launch, or simply the new cool trend for everyone to outrage over any microtransactions in game, I think the failure of Breakpoints launch was more about the climate surrounding the game industry than it was about Breakpoint as a game. I really appreciate the fact that the store isn't shoved down my throat with popups. If someone wants to pay to not play the game that's their right, but in my opinion there isn't a single thing worth purchasing in the store. My point is this game got the short stick. It's worth playing and can offer a lot.
Some other improvements I personally would like to see (aside from what is outlined in the survey) are:
Specialty blueprints available in game...example... my favorite gun is the M4 shotgun. The M4 assault is clearly the better gun but I cant currently find a 252 level M4 assault in game. While those 2 last points don't actually add up to much it is frustrating as a person with a completionist/collector mentality towards games. All blueprints should be included as in game drops upon unlocking them. Ak74 scout, M4 assault, Scorpion CQC etc....etc...I should be able to find them rather than buy at a lower level.
If this is going to have a looter shooter element there should be about triple the amount of unique weapons/blueprints. For a game that is attempting to incorporate RPG elements some very big RPG staples are missing....Lock gear for one. Since the selling mechanic is so slow and painful it is way too easy to sell the guns you want to keep, only to have to spend 15 mins selling all the crap you just bought from trying to reroll a gold weapon with the best mods. A stash would be nice...another RPG staple. If we arent going to be able to lock weapons so they dont show up in the sell menu, we should be able to stash them away so they dont get accidentally sold when we inevitably rush through the ridiculously slow process of breaking down or selling gear. I'll wait to see what happens with the removal of the gear tier system to see how this affects these issues but something to consider...
Gunsmith is pretty lack luster. Look at a game like Escape from Tarkov or the new COD and find a middle road for how interesting and in depth a gunsmith experience can be. In no way should Breakpoint offer less than its predecessors. If this is supposed to be an RPG like game....then we need actual customization. I jokingly called this game "TheDivLands2" during the beta....but I'm afraid it has become an unironic truth at this point.
The whole sliding down the hill mechanic was charming at first but now it just feels like every surface has been victim to a massive oil spill and is somewhat annoying.
A friend of mine insists that the rewards from battle tiers will simply become available for skell credits upon the introductions of the next tiers. I really hope he is wrong. So help me god if there is no incentive to actually play daily and unlock these rewards, I simply wont play daily anymore. Not out of anger, but out of the fact that there would be no reason to. By the way that M4A1 Tactical is such a piece of garbage. Way too much garbage to be offered as one of the last battle tier rewards. Silver stake is also flaming garbage. There is no reason to use either of them over other basic weapons.
Why oh why do the NPC's in Erewhon and hostages who I JUST SAVED talk to me like I'm some jerk? Lets see....I just saved the whole island from murderous drone squad and am the only person working towards containing a deadly virus, yet I gotta hear some twerp say "You hurt my people, I'll make you pay" every single time I go to Erewhon? Listen here buddy....
Anyway I digress....I can accept people not actually giving me info when I interrogate ...but to have a hostage I just saved from imminent death say "get out of my hair please!" is just....annoying. On a similar note...listening to enemies talk about how awesome auto guns or how sweet those big generators are is pretty....awful. Other than that I think a lot of the voice acting is pretty good. But why are people so disgusted with me when I am supposedly the only thing standing between them and a military police state that will likely murder them for "just taking out the trash"?
Why is it so easy to make a character look stupid with flannel pajamas but so hard to make a character look cool? If this is an RPG we need to see a big increase in the amount of non store bought cosmetics that actually look good. 100k for some awful looking red circle glasses? They look ridiculous! Ozzy made circle glasses look cooler than John Lennon ever did...yet if I wear those things I look like a 12 year old girl who just cashed in a Claire's gift card after Christmas. Its easy to make my character look like a generic soldier....and generally a realistic one at that....but an RPG should have diversity and freedom. Sure I'm free to look silly...or like any other grunt...but I find it isnt as easy to make a unique or interesting looking character with what is offered. Take a lesson from Borderlands 3 where legitimately cool costume options were available in game as drops. Not just another shirt that looks just like the other 5 I already have. And that game wasn't even that good...Breakpoint has a far more interesting and compelling story, with what I find to be much more fun gunplay. It isn't impossible to make a character look cool....but sorry...the indiana jones shirt as a side mission reward.... come on... so yeah....side missions are not even worth doing, so those rewards need an improvement to be worth playing.
I often found myself saying... "did they even play this game?!?" and I can't bring myself to feel like any serious amount of time was spent enjoying it by the devs. If the devs played this and didn't find at least some of the issues we now see ourselves experiencing then I'd like to just say...I'm looking for work, give me a call. I give the Ubi team the benefit of the doubt... that this games issues are a result of hardworking game loving devs being told by some evil CEO in a suit that they have to meet a deadline or else. I want to believe the team wants this game to improve and succeed. But when I see things like the sell screen, and the inability for a mini gun to land more than one hit every 10 seconds I just find myself throwing my hands up and asking...."did they even play this game?!?" Or was it just rushed out as part of a money grab and they were left with no choice but to make the best of a bad situation and do what they could in too little time? If I could be told that this is the very best they could do, that this game is functioning as intended....I would reactivate my ubisoft boycott in less time than you could fast travel to a bivouac for the 10'000th time....
I think I've been pretty hard on the game...so i do want to leave a list of positives...
The game looks great.
The story is enjoyable.
Voice acting is usually quite good.
Gun and bullet feel is nice. Though sound quality could be better.
Faction missions have good variety and are fun, but need to keep expanding.
The class abilities are all good and well balanced. I prefer panther for PVE, but they are all well done.
Most locations are interesting.
This game has the potential to gain a huge following and earn a loyal fanbase.
Well...that about all I have to say for now... FOR NOW...thanks for possibly (though probably not) reading all this. I hope some good somehow can come from these words. Back to the grind for me....
