    My New Wildlands Play-through Premise

It seems more and more of us are coming back from Breakpoint to enjoy some Wildlands action. I'm one of them. I'm going to do a new abbreviated play through of the campaign from scratch. And I mean scratch... I moved from PS4 to PC recently and so all my previous gear and rewards in Wildlands are unavailable. I'm starting over with a clean slate on PC.

So this is how I'm setting up the game for myself, in case anyone's interested.

First, I don't want to play the entire campaign again. Upon reflection, my fav bosses and provinces are the ones related to Security and Smuggling. So I'm going to focus on those and skip Production and Influence. My rationale is that my primary objective is to get the key "bad" people in leadership, which I assert are El Sueno, El Muro, La Plaga, Nidia Flores, and Boston Reed (and their associates). El Yayo and El Cardinal are nothing without the others and they are getting too old to be instigators and will likely disappear into the backcountry once the main security and smuggling leadership is dismantled.

Next, I need some way to justify charging off to gather weapons and attachments at the beginning that the character should already have access to IMHO, so I've written that activity into the operation as "intel gathering". Here's how I see the start of the game playing out...

    Operation Kingslayer

The objective of this operation is to dismantle critical Cartel infrastructure in the region and to kill or capture the head of the Santa Blanca Cartel.

The Cartel operations extend beyond narcotics to include kidnapping, human-trafficking, extortion and now terrorism. One of our field agents who was deep under cover within the Cartel organization was recently exposed and murdered - but before he was compromised, he exposed a plot within the highest ranks of the Cartel leadership that was responsible for the terrorist bombing in La Paz.

For this operation, your focus will be to dismantle the Cartel’s terrorist cell and security regime to cripple their ability to wage war on the populace and government. You will start with our hottest lead at the moment which is the death of our agent.

We also need to establish a relationship with government Unidad forces in the region to assist in this endeavour.

We have a small network of locals gathering intel on the Cartel’s finance, money laundering, and smuggling operation. That will be your next target, once we have sufficient intel to direct your activities.

    Deployment:

You will be inserting deep into cartel territory in Bolivia after-dark accompanied by our resident special agent assigned to this operation, Karen Bowman.

Your first objective is to make contact with the indigenous rebel leader Pac Katari who heads the Kataris 26 resistance group. They are modestly armed with outdated firearms and are an untrained guerrilla force, but they do have a strong presence in the region. Your objective is to de-brief with Katari and find out what he knows about our agents demise and any other targets he has.

    <Play Amaru’s Rescue Mission>

Next, you will be transported to Barvechos city, one of the largest population centres in the region. There we have an agent at the Barvechos airport monitoring cartel activity and they can arrange air transport for your team with just a few hours notice, however, we advise using air transport sparingly to keep a low profile.

You will use the safe house in Barvechos as your main rally point.

    Initial Assignment:

Your first priority is to collect Intel identified by Rebels at key locations around the region in a series of night operations... computers, USB drives, files. Return them to Barvechos for analysis. Insertion will be by Lockheed twin engine fixed wing aircraft, piloted by one of our Rebel Pilots, you will parachute into the designated DZs. A helo will be on standby at designated LZ in each region.

RoE for this assignment are minimal casualties, no surviving witnesses to your team, and any positive IDs on Cartel HVTs (LT) are cleared for elimination.

<Acquire essential weapons and accessories during this phase - gather key intel in the same locations for analysis back in Barvechos>

    Subsequent Assignment:

After this preliminary intel gathering phase is complete. Move your team to Itacua to investigate the torture and murder of our agent Ricky Sandoval. It is anticipated that the invistigation will reveal more about the Cartel’s terrorist and security operations in the region.

RoE for this phase: execute all Cartel personel with extreme prejudice. Agent Bowman will provide specifics and further guidance during the remainder of the operation.

<Start campaign in Itacua, then move to San Mateo, then Muntuyoc, then Media Luna, then Flor de Oro>

<Then focus on smuggling... Inca Camina, Mojocoyo, Romanzo, Koani, Caimanes, culminating in Barvechos>

    Role Playing Rules:

    - No Skill Development other than the minimal skills necessary to obtain the adv. suppressor skill, and essential items
    - No drone (I know everything too well as it is)
    - No minimap
    - I may use HUD tags for enemies as I assume my squad is keeping me informed of enemy positions - I usually don't but with a squad it makes sense you have more situational awareness as a team
    - Will not use enemy ammo boxes - only Rebel ammo boxes
    - Change loud-outs and outfits only at my vehicle or designated in-region rally point where my gear is assumed to be kept
    - No conflict in front of civilians where possible - if necessary do so at night and must be masked
    - Keep a low profile - do not use high visibility vehicles or excessive helicopters
    - No one on my team is a helicopter pilot, all air travel must be arranged through our in-region support

I have something similar but will likely adapt adding some of your rules. In mine my initial mission is simpler - uncover what happened to Sandoval. Basically go looking for Kingfisher files relevant to that. And yeah the security and financial areas of operation were my favorites. Between actions in Baravechos and the bank heist those are my favorite locations.

Regarding weapons I decided part of the plausible deniability of my team meant using weapons not part of standard US arsenal. It made me use weapons I wouldn't normally.

One thing I really like about wildlands that BP broke was the ability to have different character outfits that I could select but didn't affect my weapon load outs. I'd have one trying to blend in even though the game doesn't really support that and then various night ops, jungle and urban combat layouts.

    Good hunting.

Cool. The great thing about this game is you can do so many different role playing angles. I usually do some missions dressed as Cartel in Cartel vehicles, if I’m doing an offensive against Unidad. Similarly,I also do some missions in Unidad gear and vehicles if the op is very public and we are being seen to crack down on the Cartel. This would presumably generate mistrust and conflict. I also do some publicly visible missions as Rebels (with crap tac gear and AKs) to swing public favour towards the Rebels. For example, the prison break mission in SAN Mateo, I would do in a Rebel gear and outfits to credit the Rebels.

Why? Getting ammo from enemy is ok for soldier behind enemy lines.

That works assuming you use similar weapons.

I will pickup ammo from fallen enemies whether I like it or not, but I choose not to use enemy ammo boxes primarily because there are too many ammo boxes all over the place - meaning there's never a consideration for ammo conservation which I enjoy having to consider. And as Steven points out, this is definitely a cheat if you're using a different round than enemies. For example, I would never expect to find 5.7 or 50-cal rounds in SB ammo boxes because they just never use these rounds. It may be a better compromise to limit yourself to ammo stores in enemy armoury buildings rather than those just scattered around a base.

I'm now considering playing through this game without suppressors. I think it will make it a bit more action oriented. It gets a bit dull after awhile just picking off guys in stealth.

I have one of my standby 20 minute options to play - Take down a convoy coming through Rancho Sabala. EMP drone to stop the convoy them open up from a rooftop vantage. That's when the fun begins. There is a Cartel base nearby that almost always joins the fight, some rebels that frequently join in and then the potential Unidad patrol may join but it is a coin toss what relation they will take with the Cartel. Opening up with no suppressors sounds nice and there is no reason to stay quiet. For a few minutes it is a full on civil war. I do love this game.

I just purchased Wildlands too... I don't have any exposure to it but if it's half the game everyone says it is it's still twice the game Breakpoint is.
