3 hours in - keep playing or uninstall and wait a year?

I'm 3 hours in and so far I'm not having much fun. My biggest frustration is this unbelievable frustrating menu and interface systems. Why does pressing E on a mission objective I spent 20 minutes trying to find then require navigating through 6 different menus just to progress the quest? Also what exactly is the point of the game? In those 3 hours I've done nothing but fly around the map in a helicopter shooting people with a sniper rifle who may or may not drop something better than what I currently have...but for what? What point? What purpose? What am I fighting for? What am I trying to accomplish?

Does the next 40 hours of the game get any better then the first 3 hours or should I wait a year and see how it turns out?

well, it's all highly subjective, but I'd say this - if you're more than 3 hours OUT of Erewhon (the hour or so spent getting there doesn't count, I feel, as it's mostly tutorial gameplay mechanics time) and you're not enjoying the gameplay loop, then yah - you probably don't want to continue. While there IS a story to follow, and I like some of the non-faction missions (the scripted side missions and main storyline missions are moderately interesting, IMO), the VAST MAJORITY of the gameplay is exploration, killing, looting. If you're not enjoying the basics of traversing the map, killing enemies, and upgrading your loot and cosmetics, then you're not going to enjoy most of the game, because as near as I can tell (I haven't finished single player, fair warning), the vast majority of the game is those three components.

There is one caveat - because the game is multiplayer capable, and almost any game, no matter how bad, is almost always better with people you like, teaming up with a mate or two could turn a borderline barely enjoyable experience into a genuinely enjoyable experience - so, if you're ALMOST having fun with GRB, and can find a few friends to play with you - you can probably make a go of it.

No opinion on PVP on my side - someone else will have to clue you in as to whether that's any kind of fun or not.

Hope this highly subjective opinion helps

For what it's worth, if the shooting and environment don't hook you, the story damn sure won't. You're there basically to find and kill Walker.

I've only had the game 2 weeks but I find the shooting and island itself pleasing enough (not on par with Wildlands) to just explore the island and try to reach the gear score limit and I've only completed the first mission. I just avoid the mission markers entirely for now while I wait patiently to see what's done to improve the game. Shouldn't be long to see where it's going because they have to add that dumb raid soon.

If you can't find enjoyment from it then why play really. I mean that is the point of games.

I just cant spend 59 dollars on a game and just not play it. I have to atleast try and get some of my moneys worth out of it in gameplay.

The game came up lame you just need to put it down quick. You might want to burn it so it doesn't become a zombie game. Poor Nomad your ghost will always haunt me.

That's too much imo, i only pay for games when the price is less than £40. $59 = £44.91 i shopped around till i found it under 40 quid, i.e. around the price games used to be.

That’s a pretty astute assessment after a few hours. You’ve captured the core game play loop in a nutshell. It’s a hamster wheel... get better gear... so you can get better gear.

Besides that, there’s a paper thin story that really is just a bunch of errands running back and forth across the island that are more annoying than rewarding. The ending is not an ending... it’s to be continued.

The world is great though and the gunplay is satisfying. So exploring and killing guys is satisfying for awhile until you realize the AI has some issues.

There's a lot of bugs right now so it may be worth giving it a miss for while just for that. I'd also hazard a guess that a lot may (or may not) change with respect to the actual game over the course of the year.

In terms of gameplay I'd look at the difficulty setting you are on. Higher difficulty gives greater challenge, but can also limit gameplay options. Lower difficulty can open up more game play styles, notably more reckless and direct approaches.

That said you'll improve and most likely open up more options as you get better.

last night i was hiding in a building and enemies kept repeating the same taking cover lines over and over while i was hiding behind a table, i watched two guys come through a doorway and then back out several times before it got annoying and then i came out of cover to end the pain.

That's the kind of dodgy AI people are talking about, it's very hit and miss though, sometimes they seem ok but the next play they can be terrible.
